Why can’t the current president get aggressive cancer? Everyone would love that (although I would pity the cancer).

Since this is an opportunity to educate people about health, I will not discuss politics here. :)

    • If you’re a guy, your urinary tract is stupidly complicated from a medical viewpoint and there’s a prostate beneath the bladder which hydrogenates testosterone (T is produced by the brain) into dihydrotestosterone, produces fluid to mix the seminal fluid with, and generally supports fertility and gender specific phenotype.

    • With progressing age, the prostate enlarges, gets infected with HPV (nearly everyone gets it) and may get bacterial infections (typical ones are E. coli). It may also develop calcinations.

    • Risk is reduced if you live in Asia and eat a traditional menu containing much soy bean products which enables guys in those regions to enjoy several times less prostate cancer.

    • Risk is increased with nearly every urinary tract infection, especially if not conclusively diagnosed and treated.

    • After the age of 40, regularly have PSA (prostate specific antigen) measured from a blood test. It tells how much disintegration and immune reaction is occurring down there.

    • Regularly have ultrasound check-ups done. If there are UTI symptoms, treatment must not occur blindly, but must be followed by observation.

    • If you are young and your home country has medical insurance that covers HPV vaccination, get it while it’s free (because it costs 150 € a dose). If you’re rich enough, there may be a point in getting it later too, especially if you’ve not had unsafe sex (it doesn’t protect after infection). The majority of people get HPV during their lives and approximately 9 strains cause cervical cancer in women and raise the risk of prostate cancer in men. By getting vaccinated against HPV, you protect both yourself and your partners from drawing a ticket in a quite nasty lottery.

    • As long as prostate cancer is androgen dependent, it can be suppressed with an androgen blockade.

I stomached looking at his truth social account so you don’t have to:

Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.

I guess some pr person has his phone today. He’ll probably say something stupid in an interview later.

Cancer doesn’t care about ideology, but it sure seems like one ideology in the US cares about giving you cancer and denying treatment for it.

If cancer could vote, it would vote Republican.

Yeah. Turns out he posted on twitter last night, less than three hours from the OP’s countdown:

What I want to know is how did Dr. Jill Biden miss stage five metastatic cancer or is this yet another coverup???

I should note that there is no such thing as stage five cancer, only 1-4. And Jill Biden’s doctorate is in education.

Anything is possible. Prostate cancer is far more common than most people realize…there is an easy to remember true statistic – 80% of all men over 80 have prostate cancer. That’s 4 out of 5. It very often tends to be so slow growing that it’s simply not an issue, really, you’ll have more pressing health concerns that will kill you first.

It’s good to check, then once it is identified, either dealt with or monitored with regular frequency.

It has already metastasized in his bones, so it’s much more aggressive than most prostate cancers. After metastasizing there, three 5-year survival rate is about 33% with a median survival time of 21 months. But it’s also very rare for it to have already spread elsewhere before being caught, so I’m assuming that means that this is even more aggressive than normal and that 21 months would be optimistic. But I’m not a medical professional, so I can’t say how valid this assumption is.

its slow growing from what ive heard, but biden had a aggressive type, which would be different, since aggressive types usually have different mutations and genetics compared to the “slow growing ones”. even with something like melanoma, there are more than one type: nodular, subungul, etc. some cancers can be indentified by the type of gene mutations they have thats specific to that cancer

While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.

Feels like more of the same strategy of downplaying Biden’s symptoms. I bet when he dies they’ll deny it for a few days.

I don’t disagree that there is a strategy of downplaying not just Biden’s, but every politician’s health conditions.

I used to have this absolutely incredible writing professor, who, at 85, told us on the first day of class that he was dying, and had been for 4 years. He even had a blog about his reflections on mortality that he invited us to read. He had prostate cancer. I don’t remember the details, but they couldn’t operate to remove it or do chemo, but it was the kind that is hormone sensitive. They gave him a drug that destroyed his body’s ability to produce testosterone, so the cancer just stopped growing. He died at 90 - 9 years after his diagnosis. 10% extra life for him.

No two people and prognosis’ are alike but the possibility exists they might be telling the truth about managing it.

Some people just defy the odds sometimes, my grandpa was supposed to die 5 or 6 times before he finally did. Multiple times the doctors told us they could no longer do anything for him, only for him to recover and get into the same situation with another issue some years later.

He lived on borrowed time ever since my mom was born yet lived to see his first grand-grandchild born some 30+ years later.

the form is still hormone sensitive so its treatable, to an extent, obvious with metasis is lower, but prostate usually have good prognosis, but that depends other factors.

much like breast cancers that are hormone sensitive, they are treatable, the ones that triple negative or the rare IBC those are very aggressive and they are not affected by anti-hormone therapy.

Stage 4 cancer with metastasis? Not gonna make it. No amount of money or power can stop a dead man walking.

But it does make ya wonder why he wanted to run for a second term. He probably won’t make it to the end of the current administration.

Look at the average age of congress. Look at what Dianne Feinstein was doing at the end of her life. They don’t want power. It’s all automatic to them at this point. They don’t know now to do anything else then grab and hold as much power as possible without any reason or purpose.

It’s quite the opposite actually. Actual policy and history demonstrate that they absolutely do not follow through with their claims and promises. You seem to be ignorant of both of these while basing your opinion off the empty rhetoric they spout in the media.

Their most landmark legislation in the past 20 years was the ACA, which they passed when they held a supermajority in government and didn’t need any Republican support, and yet they decided to drop single-payer in order to pass a Republican healthcare plan that cemented the private insurance model into law while increasing government subsidies to insurance companies meaning even more of our tax dollars are funneled into executive and shareholder pockets while people are still struggling to afford skyrocketing healthcare costs. They didn’t need any Republican support (nor did they receive it) yet they still chose to screw the American people with this bill. How do you explain that?

They also just unanimously voted to pass an internet censorship bill along with all but two Republicans. Trump has stated that he will use this bill to silence his critics and every single Dem Representative voted in favor of it.

They also passed the Republican government spending bill which retroactively legalized all the illegal DOGE cuts they’d been making.

Maybe you should stop listening to the empty promises and virtue signaling and start looking at their actual actions. Modern Dems are to the right of Reagan even if they claim otherwise.

They had a 60 seat majority for like 8 months before Kennedy died. And as noted by other comments, one of those votes was a “no” if they tried to do any better.

But it was also partly a victim of Obama’s early policy of negotiating with himself to try and appear bipartisan. It took him too long to realize the GOP isn’t a good faith opposition party.

They held a supermajority WITH INDEPENDENT CAUCUS and one of those independents demanded they drop even the PUBLIC-OPTION version in order to pass any version of the bill.

Then the S.2073 bill you mentioned, it had 3 nay votes, 2 R and 1 D, and also 6 Not Voting 3 R and 3 D. It restricts very specific actions taken by companies targeting those of age 13 or younger, with a pretty massive list of exceptions. FULL TEXT HERE. It’s actually pretty cool, IMO, it bans data gathering of the children, infinite scrolling feeds, personalized recommendations, notifications, or in-game purchases in the context of platforms targeting children of age 13 or younger.

But it does make ya wonder why he wanted to run for a second term. He probably won’t make it to the end of the current administration.

There are already conspiracy theories going around that he kept his medical issues (dementia, cancer, etc) a closely guarded secret whilst running for re-election.

As for why I think Biden wanted to run for a second term, my guess is that his plan was to stand down and effectively proxy the United States’ first female leader in that way. Harris would have otherwise been eviscerated in the primaries.

He won’t live long enough to see the major impact of slow rolling Trump’s arrest.

Dude, with the way Trump is handling things, the 2026 midterms and 2028 presidential elections are going to be about as Fair and Balanced™ as a Fox News broadcast.

I mean, Biden is quoted as calling it a campaign promise.

Which is is less binding than a pinky promise, but in 2024, he at least saw that he had made the commitment in 2020. Plenty of people in 2024 then were also incorrectly saying that Biden didn’t make that promise.

Viable!?! Given Biden only really won because of Covid, I think Bernie would’ve actually had a shot in the general, especially in energizing the base and working class. Warren could’ve also stood a better chance, even if she might not have done as great of a job in office.

Biden was the worst choice, I thought Buttigieg, Klobuchar, and especially Harris in 2020 were far better, but the capitalist elites wanted a weak old man, so we got Biden, dooming us for 2024 because there was no way he’d be selfless enough to step aside. He might’ve said he’d be one term, but he was lying and that’s why no one took him seriously.

cancers can grow very quickly in the short amount of time, only takes weeks for a tumor to grow large suddenly if its an aggressive type. also many cancers, like melanoma can spread with a small tumor extremely fast. the staging depends on how much its spread, and also by the biopsy how much it infilitrated the layers of tissues.

The real problem was the Democratic party making tactically poor move after tactically poor move. They were too obsessed with imperial support of Israel to do the right thing for US interests and the voters. They were too “anti-communist” to consider not banning TikTok and alienating younger voters. They were willing to cede the narrative to the right constantly. They refused to give the left any progressive policy goals to chew on despite us yelling about how much all of this would fuck with turnout.

For the past 2 years, they thought corporate ads and ultraconservative libs would win the election, when that wasn’t what helped them in the midterms, hasn’t been the playbook in decades, and was just what let them hang out with their “good ole Republican friends” who they really wish they could ally with like in the 90s. It was a load of interpersonal bullshit, purposefully engineered by the ruling class to ensure the Democratic leadership would never sacrifice capitalism for liberal democracy’s sake.

I’m tired and disgusted of this “blame the left” narrative, especially since plenty of liberals could tell that this was the Democrat’s biggest issue for quite a while. They never did anything to address it because the fix wasn’t easy. They went with the easy solution and expected voters to pick up the slack. That’s not how electoral politics works; Lazy, irresponsible bastards

The last time I voted and did what the liberal told me to do. I elected a president who committed genocide. This whole back and forth with this is just very frustrating because if you really break it all down how the United States is set up, how our electoral processes work, I mean the power of the executive branch nowadays we’re not really a democracy. Corporations have captured our government. There’s this lady who is a exCIA analyst and she has a book called How Civil War Start and How to Stop Them. Her name is Barbara Walters. She refers to the United States as not a democracy. She is more successful and smarter than me and you.

Joe didn’t commit genocide, but he did provide the ability and protection for the genociders, which is honestly worse in some ways. America wasn’t a proper democracy; mostly a liberal empire where people have no say beyond if they get burnt, or thrown into hell.

The local level was where we could’ve built democracy this entire time, but building up that way for the long game is difficult and wouldn’t have delivered the material changes very quickly. The executive was ensured it would become a dictatorship because the legislature was so incapable of doing basic maintenance thanks to the ever increasing push by the right to achieve anarcho-capitalism at the cost of the very empire that gave liberalism its power.

The capitalists were a bunch of gremlins in an imperial machine who didn’t know how good they had it. Some get to do what they want now, but they’re losing more power than they realize, as now America won’t be the big bad empire it was when they started. Many have assumed it’s capitalism that’s the monolithic evil of history, but if you really look at the realities of the past, if you really look at the realities of America and the USSR, you’ll realize that capitalism was always but a minor force. Empires are the greatest evil in human history, not that Capitalism is better, but it just can’t reach the same level.
