“He despised you, and everything you stand for,” he adds
Yeah, that’s fair. Stephen Miller should keep everything else out of his filthy Nazi mouth too, including atmospheric air.
Go on, Stephen: Hold you breath until we start liking your Nazi ass.
That would be similar to Hitlers last act of heroism before dying after living as the villain.
You have to hand it to Hitler, at least he killed Hitler!
Surprising how much still fits with Trump’s dick in there.
Or maybe not, maybe there’s a functional reason he wanted kids
According to Stormy, it doesn’t need mush room.
Hey Stephen, hold your breath… trans people have breathed that air before you. ;)
his equally demented wife says hes a “matador” in bed.
Fitting, letting bulls charge his cape and all that.
…so she’s a bull in bed, presumably?
They just run curcles around eachother in bed while he tries to avoid her railing him I guess.
He… waves a red piece of cloth at her before repeatedly non-consensually penetrating her with a spear when she charges so the audience can watch her bleed out in the bedroom?
Odd fetish. I don’t normally kink-shame, but…
Probably more the part where they prick them with the poisonous needle than any kind of spear action.
If anyone had told me in the 90’s that I would end up deeply admiring Westley Crusher and considering him one of my heroes, I would never have believed it.
In fairness, it’s not new. Wil Wheaton has always been awesome. But this confirms his awesomeness.

The hate for Wil Wheaton has never been warranted. He was a child. He had nothing to do with the writing of his character (wish fulfilment Mary Sue / Marty Stu type of character for Gene Roddenberry).
I’ve been a fan of Wil since before I started watching Star Trek TNG as a kid, when I saw him in Stand By Me. Later in life I learned that he was a nerd, and was “one of us” much more than the other Trek actors. There’s really so much to love about the guy that at this point if you hate him it’s on you, not him.
His character’s a bit annoying in like the first two episodes he’s in, once the writers find their footing he’s fine. He’s not the only character that took a few eps to make sense.
Yep. Whill Wheaton has always been a pretty stand-up guy.

Would you like some coo whip for your pie?

The early hate was just in the period where TNG was trying to figure itself out, and if you couldn’t relate to Wesley in some way, you hated him for his part. But it got better, and the show needed that age representative.
To be fair, the first season TNG is a little unsteady on its feet. For instance, Picard was depicted as being a lot more stubborn and rigid in his ways but ended up with a lot more nuance after a little bit.
I didn’t like or dislike the character. I just found the Westley Crusher side arcs of zero interest and basically time wasters.
As in, I watched Star Trek to watch, ya know, star treks - space stuff, aliens, adventure at the frontier of the know universe and crazy science fiction. I didn’t watch Star Trek to watch a teenager come of age: I already had one at home.
I grew up on the original Star Trek. It probably shaped my expectations.
I found him annoying in the first 1-2 seasons of TNG but that wasn’t helped by him being classed as a bit of a nuisance. Not helped by Picard not knowing how to deal with him either. Picard was probably better with the younger kids than an adolescent. And as a 10yo with a father the same age as Picard (or at least Patrick Stewart), the similarities between their “styles” felt like a reflection on my life at the time.
The fact I didn’t like Wesley probably means I didn’t really like myself either thinking about it but that’s a problem for me and my therapist, Dr. Shiraz.

But I didn’t think blaming the actor for episodes that aren’t the best was the way to go about it.
Oh yeah clearly. I didn’t care much for Westley Crusher, but I had nothing against Wil Wheaton. In fact, I knew nothing about him until he became an adult and I realized he had interesting shit to say.
But clearly he’s not responsible for Westley Crusher anymore than Jon Paul Steuer was responsible for the equally-annoying Alexander Rozhenko character.
Probably the first time I really understood a little bit of the hate was when I watched Galaxy Quest and their parody of him was a little child. It’s just a little bit out-of-odds with the setting that there’s this goofy kid there all the time.
I liked him, too. There’s probably dozens of us!
I’m in the early-ish stages of a full Star Trek rewatch (or watch for the first time, for a couple of series). Apropos, I was on the penultimate episode of TAS when news about Stewart broke. Finished TAS, watched The Inner Light, then started TNG.
I guess what I’ll say about the “hate” for Wesley is that we– the audience– were told to hate Wesley, at least in the first part of season one. Picard had active disdain for him, and the entire crew simply called him “the boy.” Roddenberry was like George Lucas in my opinion; the best there was at the big ideas, woefully bad ad the small ones. Individual episode writing and character development being “small” in this context.
Same. He played a nerdy kid that spent more time interacting with the adults around him than other kids, even if they didn’t always take him seriously. I identified with that a lot. And it never hurt that Wil is only a year or so older than me in real life, and had a lot of the same interests. I grew up seeing him as both a peer and a role-model.
The people hating him we about the same age and jealous

Wil is the fucking man, Patrick Stewart would be proud
Stephen miller should just not talk at all
Stephen Miller should just not breathe at all.
I like this option.
Breathe at all.
Not that either.
I would expect that the Democrats are going to be holding quite a few Congressional investigations in the next two years and that he is going to have to be answering quite a few questions in front of Congress for them.
Lol. No. They’ll sweep it all under the rug in the name of “national healing” or some such nonsense. It’s what always happens.
Nah, Democrats are going to be out for blood. They know their based elected them to go after the Trump administration, and investigations are the main lever of power that they have if they have Congress but not the presidency. Where they’re going to run into problems getting to someone like Miller is executive privilege. Anyone vaguely close to the president is going to claim executive privilege, it goes to the courts, and then the Trump administration just tries to run out the clock.
History says no, they won’t. This is the same gaping wound from the civil war - the problem with the country has never been fixed. And that is that a lot of people in the country think they’re more worthy than other to be classified as human.
I expect a huge puffy-chested bluster about holding people accountable - then hemming and hawing until “We have to move forward” starts up, once the checks roll in.
Bribery is legal here, and they (mostly) seem to be bought. Use the outrage to get into power, then further entrench themselves in our broken system until they can cash-out, like the parasites they are.
I would very much like to be wrong.
If you can dream and not make dreams your master…
There are very few democrats. Tatching CSPAN currently is akin to watching the muppet show tonight, but all the puppetiers are on the olicgarch payroll.
Oh all the Trump ghouls, Miller is the one that I would fear the most. Far to cold and calculating in how he can inflict the most pain on others.
As the old Frank Zappa line went “They look after no 1, you ain’t even no 2.”
Miller is too obvious. He smells Nazi from a mile away. Not dangerous to anybody with a modicum of common sense.
The real danger is that slick slimeball JD Vance. The only saving grace with him is that he has the charisma of an open hemorrhoid.
DON’T shut up, Wesley!

DON’T SHUT UP, WESLEY.
Westley Crusher: “Shut up, Stephen!”
Good. More. Bring public shaming back until these cretins scurry back under their rocks.
This one pisses me off. A lot.
“Keep talking, Westley.”
Stephen Miller being a diehard Trekkie is one of life’s great What the Fucks.
It’s the military structure he likes. Everyone wears a uniform, everyone puts the uniform before themselves. It’s all yes sir, no sir, Klingons decloaking off starboard sir. There is a clear structure of authority and everyone follows it without question. That is the part of Star Trek Stephen Miller likes. He’s so blinded by the set and setting that he doesn’t see the message at all. As far as he’s concerned it’s a space show about subordinates following their Capitan. Nothing more.
It’s funny, I heard an interview once where Gene said he was writing morality plays, and hiding them behind weird alien make up so people wouldn’t notice. I always wondered how anyone could possibly not notice until I read Hatemonger.
He’s the one who likes all our pretty songs.
He rooted for the authoritarians in Insurrection and Into Darkness and other similar lines I bet.
he loves the romulans too and section 31.
Fucking legend.
Wil Wheaton is the man. He should be on Lemmy. He was on Reddit, and we’d love him even more here.
He was on Reddit
And he was on Slashdot before that.
He was on mastodon too, but I think he left.
he joined a tabletop focused instance that didn’t hold dear the types of treating eachother better ethos most of us here on the fediverse hold dear, so his first impressions of the fediverse was getting bullied by a bunch of nazis. it’s kind of not a surprise he hasn’t been able to recover from that experience, even if it’s not really a typical one
He joined very early. The mainstay of the communities was conservatives ostracised from social media. It wasn’t until the progressives started fleeing Twitter and Reddit that the support-each-other communities would blossom. I went back when I got here and found his treatment and why he left. It was just a bunch of juvenile fuckwads saying, " Shut up, Westley," to everything he wrote. He gave it a solid run, tried to take some of it in jest; in the end, he just wasn’t welcome at the time.
thank you for the additional, and better remembered, context
no no, you were entirely accurate. I just came back for context. I had hoped that he maybe just took something the wrong way; he can be quite sensitive at times, so I hunted down the transgressions and found they were awful to him.
And Fark!
So that’s who Cowboy Neal is!
Based af
Yes, Wil! Haha, yes!
