I remember learning about Shamir’s secret sharing, and indeed the concept is fascinating. I’m not sure passwords is the best use case of something like that, but I’m not completely against it in theory.

So your solution to password theft is to make sure other people have them?

Mostly agree. However, Excel remains the exception. I refuse to buy/subscribe to whatever subscription they are currently peddling, but I do consider my stand alone Excel license to be worth it. And if the next version of Excel is still offered as a stand alone perpetual license and does not force AI, I’ll buy that too.

Technology@beehaw.org•Plex’s crackdown on free remote streaming access starts this week
1·17 days agoWith Plex, everyone has their own accounts they are responsible for. They create the account and set the password. You give those accounts access.
I couldn’t stand the onslaught of “what’s my passwords.”

41·20 days agoAt least when it comes to running shoes, I’m of the opinion that the shoe chooses you. Go to a running store and try on a few brands, find the one that feels the best. Buy one pair from that store; every subsequent time you buy running shoes you know the band and model and can buy it wherever is cheaper.

2·3 months agoLikely a codec issue with your client player. The client couldn’t play the file (either video or audio) natively, so the server transcoded the file so it could.
Transcoding is a feature. I understand why you would rather it direct stream, but you’ve got to make sure the client can play the file natively.
