I read it as number one and still got confused why people did this. I leave it in another room while I take a shower… is that not what people normally do?
Yeah, I always leave the phone outside the bathroom, never even thought to bring it with me. I guess this the new age addiction to bring phones everywhere you go even inside of your own home.

I once got stuck in a shower room because the lock broke, and I’ve spent about 6 hours on something like 3 square meters without any way to contact the external world nor entertain myself. It was just me, bath, shower machine and the sink. I’ve been alone at the house, so I couldn’t ask for help. Also, hot water pipes were being repaired, so I couldn’t take a nice shower/bath while at it, either.
Since then, I always took a phone with me. Just in case, y’know.
Really poor wording on this article. Most people don’t think “bringing your phone into the shower,” means “leave your phone in the bathroom while you take a shower.”

I brong it in to doomscroll whilst pooping before i shower. So its already in the room with me. But never had an issue so far.

Have the same phone for 6 years now, bring it into the shower most days, and have not had any issues.
Maybe steam has a non-zero effect but it’s pretty damn close to zero…

I mean, I just set my phone just outside the shower and turn the volume up a touch. Once upon a time I had a weatherproof bag I’d seal my phone in that was originally meant for a solar powered flashlight for emergency use. The bag was triple sealed and I doubt any steam reached the phone.

Yeah, but my sink is far enough from the shower that the effect isn’t worth it.
How long do you spend in the shower? Do you have time to turn off your brain for 5–10 minutes? I recommend it from time to time. Sometimes I even drive to work, or especially from work, without any audio on. It’s surprisingly relaxing.
But maybe I’m talking to one of the generations who grew up with mobile phones. I imagine it’s harder for them.

I love the assumption that because I like a podcast in the shower I never turn off my brain. My brain does not turn off. I do seek silence to allow thoughts to flow and feel boredom, but some days my mind is too busy or in bad places and I want a distraction the whole day. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Always wild concept to me. People bringing their $1000 electronics into an environment not made for them. Like come on, how long are you in the shower, do you really need to be entertained while washing your body?
I’ve noticed an increasing number of people that use their phone the entire time they’re at the urinal in public restrooms. This takes what? A minute tops? I’ve also seen people set it next to the sink to keep looking while washing their hands…assuming they even do to begin with.

These days I’ll shower with a resistant earbud in, listening to music. I shower early/late and don’t want the music to wake my partner. (probably less likely than the shower itself, but that’s how i roll)
Back before smartphones, when everyone was bleaching the tattletale to get the phone warrantied after getting even a little water near it, there was a rumor going around. Kids with friends in Japan were hearing that people over there had waterproof cellphones and would be talking while in the shower. We were super jealous, not for shower talking, but for the feature. I’d think ICP rated phones today should be able to handle some humidity.

Notthst I’m cheating with other women (seriously who can be bothered) my phone is locked with my fingerprint. As much as we share a lot in life I have not given her copies of my fingerprints so she couldn’t unlock the phone anyway. In theory she knows the passcode but since she asks me for it every single time she needs to use my phone I’m recently confident she doesn’t retain it.
If one is this ignorant and addicted to the damn thing, plug it while you take a shower. The phone will be happy.

Some special shampoos require you to be sitting there for like 10 minutes until it does its thing. I thought it was safe since water was no longer coming out of the shower, I didn’t consider the high humidity environment.

Feels so awkward to jack off in the shower. I much prefer doing it sitting in the toilet.
When I say special shampoo I mean it. Like the one time my dog got fleas so I used anti-flea dog shampoo just in case. It took forever.
Why not use that time to soap up and rinse off your body while you wait for the shampoo to do its thing? That’s what I do.
As a cyclist, that’s leg shaving time.
I find it meditative… washing the nooks, rinsing, etc. I do, sometimes, run music outside on a counter with a door open.

Not often, because I like bathing and using phone is wasting your water relaxation time. But, I do use it sometimes when I want music or am in the middle of something and also need or want to take a shower or bath.
Phone reading in the bath is amazing.
To be clear, I also have always strived for completely waterproof cases.
I will set some music, but I also don’t have a humidity problem in my bathroom.
I’ve had this same phone since Covid, and bring it into the shower every day for podcasts, music, or YouTube videos.
Still works great! It might need charge in the evening after heavy use, but what 6 year old phone wouldn’t?
Sad, that the recommendation is “use Bluetooth speakers instead, which are more expendable” instead of “are safe to use”.
UE BOOM speakers are safe to use in a humid bathroom during a shower. I’m pretty sure.
They sound fucking fantastic too.
I used to have a waterproof Bluetooth speaker, but it was actually better than having your phone with you since it was right there in the shower.
