Never seen anybody using emoji in any community. I did use once or twice, but the way its absent over here, I’m starting to think its part of some implicit rules lemmy has
Emojis are a trashy signal for me I hate them. I want my text monochrome. Cool unicode symbols get a pass. “⚠” Yes “⚠️” no.
It’s not that I dislike emoji, but that using them is more effort than a casual comment deserves.
I’ve always been of the opinion that one can use their words. I’ve never read anything with emojis crammed in where I felt they’ve added anything of substance. It just seems lazy and a bit trashy.
Yes. I’m well aware I’m a curmudgeon. I make no apologies.
I use them on discord on sometimes on othef chat platforms. I don’t really like them in longer form text like lemmy or reddit.
They also, at least for me, carry context that doesn’t make that much sense outside one community. For example I used laughing cat emoji that we use to signify being amused and a guy from a different community thought I was mocking him.
Never?
My whole username is emoji. And I’m everywhere.
I like ASCII emojis more. Emojis feel creepy sometimes I like the purple heart
Personally I am happy to be free of this arbitrary rule of Reddit sheep culture that you can’t use emojis. People here have the courtesy to use them as appropriate, and I myself use them occasionally. I hope we all just keep it that way.

It’s just that everyone is miserable here and it would be a river of sad and crying faces in every conversation…
i don’t use them here usually.
Depends.
I rather use these: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You see them sometimes, but they’re only really ever used when they’re needed for something that can’t as easily be expressed with text. I’ve seen many other places where they’re overused, and it just makes things harder to read. I don’t care for that. It’s not a rule to not use them, but it is an implied rule to not overuse them (except in mockery).
Lemmy has a much older user base though. Most of us grew up with emoticons (the text version of emojis) at most. Emojis are used a lot more with people who grew up with smart phones.
In neck of the woods the emoji 🙏🙏🙏
is practically a professional requirements.
has to be 3 🙏
I think a few old school text emoji’s are fine, when used in moderation.
:D
I think relying on cute lil pictures littered throughout text to convey your message is lazy, distracting and childish.
I’m gen z so I don’t use them much
