A few weeks ago we had bunch of angry pixies go rogue in a rack mount RF transmitter power supply. In the process they let all of the blue smoke out… violently. I love the smell of ozone in the morning.

Friend said his car made a light “thud” noise and quit working.

The piston that’s supposed to be on the right is no longer there, it was in a million pieces down in the oil pan.

Ignore all the noises and idiot lights until it stops moving, then wonder what could have possibly gone wrong.

I had a sudden hole in a piston one time, no warning just a massive amount of smoke coming from the blown out breather hose under the hood. I slapped a used piston and new injectors into it and it’s still going along.

Knowing him, if it didn’t quit working entirely he probably would have done just that. A few months later he blew the wheel bearing on his truck and just kept driving it. I had gone over for coffee when he casually mentioned his truck was making noise when he drove so I checked and it was already grinding down on the brake caliper and two tie rods were completely toast. The thing must have steered like a shopping cart, but somehow he didn’t think anything of it.

Not visible from this picture so it might not fit your post. But the hydraulic cylinder on the ground shattered while retracted. the metal bits prevented movement and our log cutter popped a hose spraying me with hydraulic fluid one fall.

the “aha there’s your problem” moment didn’t arrive until we got the rest of the hoses disconnected from it and let it drain and found out it still wouldn’t move. it was my first time tearing a machine down that far so the pictures aren’t great but it was a fun moment for me. not so much my boss.

A couple years ago I was a field technician for an ISP in Michigan. There was a customer connected to this terminal reporting their service down.

Many moons ago, I bought a cheap muzzle brake and flash hider/disperser. After a few rounds through it, it showed its superior materials and manufacturing quality.
