Since joining the tech company in 2025, Gary has noticed that naming his employer prompts brutal reactions from prospective paramours. One woman, he says, called him the devil; another asked how he lives with himself. “Sometimes people would just straight up stop talking to me,” he says.

    Take a fucking hint Gary…

Gary has resorted to saying he works in AI. “Even that gets some pretty bad responses sometimes,” he says. His Hinge profile doesn’t mention his employer. And sometimes he makes up stories out of thin air to justify working for Palantir—like that line about the medical debt. His parents don’t have any, nor are they ill.

Jesus fucking christ, Gary…at this point you’re just a bad person. Reevaluate your life decisions.

No, with just this information I think the point when we can say he crossed the line into “bad person” was when he applied for a job with Palantir.

I’d respect this douche a lot more if he just hired a sex worker and moved on.

Reading this, I’m just like “Dude, ahem, sorry, Douchebag! Just accept it. You’re not a good person.” And he won’t be as long as he continue to work at Palantir (and afterwards too, unless he gave all his money to the people he’s harmed and then worked tirelessly to do right by them…but we all know he’s just another dude who is willing to lie to get laid).

Honestly if I worked in a big evil tech company, I’d just never date again and just accept it’s Fleshlights and/or sex workers for the rest of my life. There’s alot less shame in that than whatever the fuck this pathetic shit is.

In a lot of places the fact that sex work is borderline or strictly illegal complicates this.

Ok, was surprised about that, so decided to look this up.

It turns out this is correct, the expression does tend to use “lede” though “lead” is also occasionally used. You could call that occasional usage just people making a mistake, except for one thing… “Lede” is just an archaic English form of the word “lead” and they both mean “to guide”. So “burying the lead” is exactly the same statement as burying the lede", but with an archaic word replaced with the same modern word. So my question is, is that wrong?

        It’s Initrode now.

And, yeah, when I tell people I work in tech the response is either “cool” or questions about what we do and how we do it, from the more geeky people. But I also don’t work for a company that “shortens the kill chain” or “connects the supply chain to the kill chain”

EDIT : I want to be very clear that “Connecting the Supply Chain to the Kill Chain” is the real actual title of one of their advertising docs on their official website linked above.

Palantir’s such a psychotically cringey company. Acting like flying a MacBook from a desk in Miami is some warrior shit. God I hate them so much. What’s worse is they actually do help kill people but never have to come face to face with it.

On top of that their cringe is infecting other tech companies. Like the term “forward deployed engineer”. Because you know, implying that you’re at war with your customers is definitely healthy and appropriate.

Right? I’m a swe, happily partnered up, and the times I was single, easily partnered up. The problem isn’t being a tech bro, the problem is being a fuckin wet noodle of a person. I’ve got the same hobbyist servers, the same half-finished coding projects I’ll never get done, the same 40k models, the same flab. I just also stand for good things and act on those beliefs, and live every day demonstrating that if you’re fash or fash-adjacent, you’re not safe here, and if you’re anti-those things then I’m great.

Yep, and if you’re a real techbro, you start off by making the offering great. But then, you gradually enshittify it. Popups start coming up that ask her to consent to things she doesn’t really want forever, on unconscionable terms, but at first there is a ‘Yes’ or ‘Not now’ option. Behind the scenes, there are terms saying you can change the terms any time you like, and her only option is to leave within 14 days, and it is her responsibility to monitor the terms and stop using it if she doesn’t agree. You start silently changing the terms to allow you to opt her in by default to consent to things she doesn’t want. She opts out, so you change the terms again so she has no choice. All the while the service gets worse - but what’s she going to do, she’s locked in.

And that sort of thing is why working for companies known for doing the equivalent of the above but to the public is not going to get a good reaction.

The second sentence in the subtitle states “It’s made getting laid a whole lot harder”. That sentence set the precedent for my comment.

The term is all semantics. I’m fine calling them women, men, trans, sexual partners, furries, one night stand, friends with benefits or whatever term fits best. You and I were just being sarcastic.
