  • People that comment about the civilians of Venezuela aren’t taking into account the psychology of those you know versus those you don’t. Firing on American civilians is going to be very different mind game, even for soldiers trained to kill. Being on home turf and having to actually destroy your own infrastructure and kill people you know have a culture the same as yours is different even if there are political differences. Hearing fellow soldiers screaming and crying for mom or help after being shot is a mind fuck in war, but then hearing civilians do it? Knowing you will go home and face people there that question whether you did it and then their treatment of you afterward is going to be a factor. Most are not career military…

There will be those that do it, but I’m willing to put money on more soldiers that second guess, hesitate, or purposely miss if ordered to fire.

  • I am a 4x year old father that voted for Kamala, and my 11 year old son does a lot for various charities without me asking him too. He’s been choosing a charity to help children, LGBTQ, immigrants/refugees, etc for the past few years by selling lemonade during the summer with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity. I am involved with groups dedicated to opposing ICE and authoritarian groups in the USA.

I may be White and male, but not all of us are monsters or want this.

  • I totally get that.

Public districts around here pay more than private and charter. As I live in the Chicago area, I have a wealth of districts I can go to beyond CPS (Chicago Public Schools) because the burbs are so close.

Yes, pay is not great for all the things that teachers have to do and are responsible for, but I don’t care. My wife brings in the bacon these days anyway as she’s a tenured professor. I’ve dealt with corporate life for over 20 years, been through layoffs multiple times, tired of the stupid corporate lingo and being in marketing where I was basically a propagandist for brands, and I like having the same time off that my kid has.

  • I was in the midst of a career change that I instigated myself with the blessing and support of my wife. I was substitute teaching while trying to break into the tech field and found that I actually loved subbing! So much so that I am more than halfway done with a Master’s program for Elementary Education.

There is a teacher shortage and I’m male, which is an underrepresented statistic in Elementary Ed, so I’m pretty confident I’ll land something. I’m taking a pay cut, but I enjoy the teaching and the positives it brings to children’s lives to have a good role model and someone that cares about them while being excited to explore new information.
