I hate that modern appliances beep constantly. Whatever happened to giving a shit about being annoying or not? Old appliances would beep or ding once. If you’re the idiot and leave something sitting forever that’s on you. I would rather have my food get cold than my microwave beep every five seconds indefinitely. Sometimes finishing up a task that is going to take 20 more seconds is the right thing to do, stop aggressively beeping at me.
My friend just bought a toaster that plays a tune when it’s done.
A toaster. That needs to tell you when it’s done.
My toaster just triggers the toast catapult when he’s done with his thing. Noise notifies me, toasted bread flies around, what’s not to like?

My rice cooker plays twinkle twinkle little star and I always dance to it when it’s done.
The difference is the rice cooker doesnt have metal parts launching upwards creating a very loud distinct sound that already indicates in the room that the toast is done.
With that said there were some really cool old toasters from like the 1950’s that had self toasting where you put the slices in and it automatically drops down and then rises quietly back up when its done. If that one had a small song I could at least understand that.
My cheap rice cooker has a single switch and when it’s done it flips position. That sucker is super loud, and I love how basic it is
Only gripe is that you have to unplug it to turn it off fully, otherwise it’s in “warm” mode

and what if the toaster played La Llorona instead anyways, in different styles every morning, because The Toaster has better taste in music than you
Wouldn’t help the people in the office that go toss a bagel in the toaster then never come back for their burnt charcoal that got stuck because it was too plump to pop up
Skill issue
My car has no fewer than five different beeps when starting up. Sometimes it just keeps beeping forever. It did when I went to see it for the first time. I was trying it and stopped at a light, and it just kept beeping. Forever. The sales person had no idea why. I wanted it so badly, it’s pre-spyware car but the beeps were untenable. Spent 20 minutes looking up what the f is up with it. I found an obscure old forum post where someone had complained about the overly sensitive sensors and there’s a secret tiny hidden button that doesn’t feel like a real car button when you press it and it mutes them until you restart the car. I found it, pressed it, and the beeps went away.
I’ve had the car for a decade now and the beeps persist, lest I press the “beepn’t” button, and yknow… that’s alright. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but that’s a hilariously bad design flaw.

Honestly sounds like a seat belt sensor malfunction or similar as those usually offer an override

I have a relatively new appliance that doesn’t beep on completion. It sings. A song. Like, . . . a 20 second song. Like an ice cream truck.
Yeah I just moved from an apartment with a washer like that. It’s cute for the first 2 seconds, the first couple of uses. After a while it feels almost passive aggressive
Beeping increases accessibility for folks with vision loss. It’s there to help more than regular sighted users be comfortable using the product.

i prefer the tactile vibration with “button” presses, but that takes more battery than a beep. i’d rather have the battery life.
my favorite science fiction future I/O bullshit was from Mass Effect, where you could have little haptics implanted in your fingers, what would vibrate on “impact” with the virtual panel (yes, i read allllll the journal and codex entries can you tell). one of the reasons i like science fiction is some of those dreams (the well-dreamt ones, anyways) eventually become realistic.
I turned off the beeping on my microwave and it was actually really awkward pressing buttons without the aural feedback that I had become accustomed to.
That kind of beeping is fine by me. What I hate is when it’s done it will beep every few seconds indefinitely.
