I (alongside most in the field globally) think what will be developed will have quite serious implications. What’s already been developed is so threatening it isn’t and shouldn’t be released to the masses without serious safety regulations. There is a race between two adversaries aka US and China to achieve self improving AI first and solve the bottleneck of compute and power because whoever has the superior AI aka thinking machine will be able to outthink and out plan the other, not just now but in perpetuity.

Personally I seriously hope for humanity we’re all wrong. We are moving at a pace where I doubt we will solve the alignment problem and if this comes to pass and this thing isn’t more compassionate than us I have doubts we as a species will continue much further. What I’m saying isn’t fringe in the slightest, this is being taken seriously by that greatest in the fields of mathematics and computer science and particularly the individuals working on AI development, not to mention the leadership of dozens of nations who are privy to things the public is not.

So if I sound cultish then so do world leaders, renowned mathematicians, and computer scientists across the globe. Funny enough you’re kinda mirroring a discussion about climate change with an individual who was convinced the global community of climate scientists were in a cult or some sort of kabal.
