  • It is a lot more devious and nefarious than simple jealousy. It’s war on any institution that can potentially undermine their authority and jeopardize their interests.

Scientific advances potentially make previous industries obsolete or expose them for being harmful (in this case it would be how climate readings are exposing the fossile fuel industry), which is a direct threat to capitalists who have invested heavily in said industries. With the understanding that the power of the state comes from the power of the economy you understand that these capitalists are deeply in bed with politicians to ensure that the pendulum always swings in their favor and begin to see why things are going the way they are.

Since they have failed to manipulate those of this institution into manipulating the data for their benefit—make no mistake, they have tried desperately to do so—and they know they cannot intimidate or otherwise coerce everyone into not using the data against them they utilize their systemic control over the ownership of the means by which these institutions conduct their labor to ensure the data never gets collected in the first place.

It’s such a shame, it isn’t like these things just disappear and stop existing. It’s literally just being told “hey you can’t do this anymore” and people capitulating to those demands. Only until the people unite with each other to take back our collective control and tell these draconic control freaks to shove their “order” up their ass will we ever begin to realize a free and just society.

Because the vast majority of people do not argue based on information but on their personal feelings, relying heavily on fallacy in an attempt to reaffirm their own perspectives rather than come to an understanding. This is just how human minds are predisposed to function with our internal logic due to inherent flaws of human psychology. Most people never bother with the practice of introspection to correct these internal biases because they don’t even know that they exist. They think their logic is sound, and it is your job to “prove them wrong”.

Taking classes in college around how to design, essentially, political propaganda to influence people into supporting your legislation (I went to school for wildlife conservation and a lot of that degree is fucking with politics to get legislation passed) really opened my eyes to this.

  • As someone with a family who absolutely doesn’t give a single shit about the difficulty of living with ADHD and just tells me to “get over it and stop being so lazy”… yes, they most likely didn’t have anyone willing to lend a hand and help them in the way they needed help because regular people don’t tend to think of the things we struggle with as being challenging enough to warrant needing assistance with.

Having a supportive community is a privilege that so many take for granted.

  • Growing up, I was the gifted kid and my brother was the hyper socialite.

Because he was hyper and I was mild-mannered (until I hit my teens and became an outcast, so I embraced punk culture) my parents only ever got my brother tested for ADHD. Nope, he was just a hyper little twerp with too much energy.

Meanwhile, I had absolutely zero ability to stick to a schedule that relied on my commitment to it, couldn’t maintain any semblance of organization, was always forgetting small things, procrastinating until the last minute on every assignment without ever studying (yet somehow was still making A’s, American education is a joke), would hyper focus for hours on single topics. Nah, to my parents I was a good student who was just “lazy” and “not applying myself”.

Didn’t get diagnosed AuADHD until last year. I’m in my 30s.
