NightOwl is a Firefox extension that forces dark mode using CSS inversion on any site.

The key feature is a per-domain toggle: sites with native dark mode (GitHub, Figma, VS Code web) can use their own. Sites that don’t support dark mode at all get CSS inversion applied.

This is different from setting prefers-color-scheme via about:config — that only works on sites that explicitly check the CSS media query. NightOwl works on all sites regardless.

Local-only: no analytics, no remote calls, no accounts. Free and open source.

Username and new account gives a lot of legitimacy. This looks promising! /s
