Technology@lemmy.world•Pope urges 'disarming' of AI in major manifestoEnglish
61·13 days agoI am sorry you had gone through that experience. The only church that illuminates at all is the one we can set on fire :')
PS. This thread can easily spin on another reiteration of the arguments around “separating the art from the artist”. That text on AI may have a certain sympathy to some… I haven’t read it. After this post, I thought “maybe I should?”. Thanks to your comment I got centered back in my perspective: “nah. the pope can say whatever he wants to. I won’t be his supporter nor audience.”

Technology@lemmy.world•Facebook and Instagram Tighten Censorship Rules for Saying “Antifa”English
71·2 months agoYou need to read Antifa, a manual written by Mark Bray. You will be surprised with history. The real propaganda was the billionaire media that biased your opinion. No offense (unless you really skip skimming through the easily found online epub, in which case you’d be denying yourself the chance to grow and hence lose any respect I had for the human being you are ;)

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Ideon: I'm building a self-hosted project cockpit on an infinite canvas (v0.5 update)English
2·3 months agoAs OP said, stars correlated with their own posting on Lemmy. So your affirmation is not absolutely true. It’s all relative… same applies to posting on reddit vs. lemmy… There’s a dilemma between popularity vs. a smaller niche population with ethical concerns.
In a similar vein, PRs might be more in quantity but less in quality when comparing any foss project on github vs codeberg…

2·3 months agoYes it is. You will only lose github issues. You need to set repo there as mirror without issues and that’s it, done

1·3 months agoWireguard allows you to tunnel properly. For example, if you have a low cost vps, self-host Pangolin and voilà. Tho idk about android apps, surely there’s some wireguard clients that work perfectly fine with Pangolin
I believe it’s the internalized opression. They also want to be pedophiles, and have full impunity.

2·4 months agoYeah, this was the case shortly after they release of model 5T or around thst time. That’s when they stopped being the only company that would provide instructions to root your device, and guess what… Back then, if you rooted your device the warranty was still valid!

Technology@lemmy.world•A generation taught not to think: AI in the classroomEnglish
121·5 months agoThis. (Offline too.)
Which generation did we really taught critical thinking to? In general, those “thinkers” or people with nice research skills (e.g. reading comprehension and other traits) were always a minority within each generation. And I agree there will be less now with AI. But we have no polls or measurement, so the title goes a little clickbaity, in resonance to the generalized discomfort towards a new technology that schools haven’t accomodated yet (e.g. all kind of solutions are seen in the wild)
I reckon it was the same with arithmetislcs and calculators in the past. We were able to deal with that! (so that whatever proportion of people that graduates knowing arithmetics with each generation didn’t shrink “too much”.)
If we are considering possible scenarios, let’s be optimistic too.
AI (discounting other problems like their ecological footprint) may not be that bad on our educational systems once we adjust…
A sailor once told me the anchor tattoo represented their will to end up in the bottom of the sea if he ever drowned or their ship sinked. This was because, as he put it, the other option would be having their family members see his body in terrible shape.
This person tended to tell exagerated stories, but still… I was young and believed it ever since. Can any other people confirm they heard the same? I would like to know :)

Canada@lemmy.ca•An almost inexhaustible reserve of lithium discovered in Canada
1·5 months agoI hope this doesn’t ruin peoples lifes. And if it affects anyone in Canada, I hope their revisit those laws on environmental pollution. There’s a reason why all the mining companies are in that country. Ecocide in third world countries is driven by that “blind spot” in their laws and I’m certain the majority of canadians don’t have the least idea of their complicity.

Technology@lemmy.world•Israel’s IDF Bans Android Phones—iPhones Now ‘Mandatory’English
102·6 months agoThis can mean anything, it’s possible they wanted just 1 platform so that their expertise is focused. And android being a little more open may have been seen (biased) as a disadvantage (i.e. enemies are more prone to find a vulnerability). We can argue with it. It’s like the counterpart of people thinking that open source is per default more safe because of being open source… It’s a correlation that can’t prove anything…

1·7 months agoAnd I wouldn’t say the use here is just a swearword. Saying Iran is under a fascist regime should unite us to identify a problem, the suffering of their population. Do not allow semantics to be one another reason why we are fighting among us, the people with radical decency.

What does LE stands for?
Also, do you have any sources to your claims?
Just the other day, I wondered myself: what happened after that detention in Paris? I haven’t read anything else. Is he in prison or free?? No idea! Is there an ongoing trial? What were the accusations?
