This is a horrible decision, but I think it might bring some good.
Publicizing the execution of the asshat will only create propaganda for Islamic extremists. They will praise and celebrate him as a martyr. And if he shouts something in Arabic just before he’s shot or uses his last words to endorse Islamic extremism this will only get worse.
At the same time, the American people have become out of touch. We live in what’s objectively one of the safest societies humanity has ever created. Our news media hides anything bloody, even our ‘violent bloody movies’ are usually more cartoonish than realistic. And so a large majority of Americans go their lives without any exposure to real violence.
Thus we sit in our safe little ivory towers and debate things like capital punishment and military action as abstract, academic concepts with no real visceral understanding of their reality. Very very very few Americans have ever witnessed another human die.
My point is- I think we’ve done ourselves a disservice. And I think/hope that actually seeing executions performed might make the American people decide this isn’t what we need in our society.
My one concern though is that we’ve gone too far down the rabbit hole- that the American people will actually like this and it will become a spectacle, that the public will gather a taste for blood. That would be worse.

Nobody in the middle east even knows who Nidal Hasan is nor will they even get mad about his execution.
What they will do however is skim another pathetic and bizarre story in the news about America. The same people who have been lecturing (and bombing, massacring, shooting, raping them as well) them for decades about how backward and extremist their Islamic cultures are.
Not even the current mass murders being committed by the US can spawn a single drop more of anti-American extremism because the hatred is already saturated. They can’t hate America any more than they already do, but mostly: nobody in the middle east sees the US as a serious threat to their nations, religion or way of life any more and Iran, as many have long predicted, will be the region’s new hegemon.
All they have to do is wait for it to die and then it will be little more than a painful memory.
Our economy is in shambles, our government is corrupt as fuck; generally the only things you can do to placate the plebs in these sorts of situations is to give them bread and circuses, (entertainment.) This is mean to pacify the base, and to intimidate anyone that isn’t part of the base.

On sites like Watch People Die, they do it all the time. That’s the thing about this execution. The only people who will be watching it will be the people who are subscribed to /h/execution. It’s almost like Hegseth is going for the ultimate Internet clout. I’m curious what his username is there.
I’ve worked in places before where you had to deal with human bodies being transported and the number of people who couldn’t even handle knowing there was a dead body IN A BOX nearby was shocking. Like the thing is hermetically fucking sealed dude. Relax.
