Samsung and AMD are reportedly close to an agreement for the manufacturing of AMD’s 2nm chips at its foundry. - SamMobile
Competition is good, problem is that Samsung is already to big.
The only real competition is coming from China.
That being said, Japan might offer a competitive option with Rapidus, but it’s tough, they’ve been building out the infrastructure and ecosystem since 2022 and they have yet to show any results.
Europe should have started a initiative like Rapidus many years ago, especially with the extremely high likelihood of the US turning into a corrupt, chauvinist oligarchy for the next 20-30 years.
But European leadership is subpar (look at Merkel) and the European population needs to wake up. I don’t mean this in the American pompous polemical sense, I mean this in the Ukrainian (or Georgian) sense.
Never heard about Rapidus, they seem very ambitious, best of luck to them.
I think real competition from China on high end like 2nm will take years. But for sure they are doing many things and pushing their position forward.
