4·4 days agoThere is no mandatory certification system for midwives. So you might get lucky and get a former emergency room nurse, or you might get unlucky and get someone who believes crystals will stop the bleeding or turn the baby around.

News@lemmy.world•Epstein Files: Investigation suggests just 2% of data released to public
11·7 days agoThat’s fine, becoming an expert in the field is a fucking nightmare. Even the people who can stomach it need regular therapy to keep them from suffering too much trauma. I would not recommend it.
I do not see a lot of csam, I’m not in law enforcement or the legal arts. However, I’ve worked with people who do both, and there’s also plenty of literature on the subject. Studying the material itself is absolutely necessary to solve a lot of these crimes.
It’s not often the abusers directly showing their face, but that does happen more often than you think. Criminals are often dumb. But you can tell a lot from the backgrounds, or objects carelessly left in view, like newspapers or phones or food wrappers. Locations can be determined. If the child can be identified and it’s unclear who took the pictures, you can identify the people they were in contact with and use the photos to narrow down the search.
In this case, the photos were taken partly as blackmail material, so they are very useful to find the people guilty of the abuse, and prove their guilt.
Now, I am sure you would agree that what should happen is that the DOJ and the FBI should go over all this evidence, using all the resources they have available, the professional investigators, etc, which does not require releasing any pictures to the public. Any that do get released, to satisfy the public right to know, should be carefully redacted to protect identities of the victims, not show their bodies even if they cannot be identified, etc, because that is basic decency.
WE ARE WAY PAST FUCKING “SHOULD”.
The FBI and DOJ are dead. They are useless sacks of shit. They have been captured by the people who did the crime. There is now no alternative but to crowdsource the justice that has been denied by normal means. That means that the pictures should be released, with victims redacted, and abusers left visible, so the world can know who they are and exact what justice can be obtained by whatever means.
Yes, that’s not ideal. Ideal left the conversation years ago.

21·8 days agoOften the abuser is in the photo. That’s led to the arrest of many a child abuser. The only reason that releasing the evidence in this case is necessary is that the people who we usually trust to look at the evidence and pursue the guilty party are not doing their fucking jobs.

2·17 days agoFair enough. That’s the way the fediverse works. Although if allowing talk of violent resistance will get whatever server I am on defederated by most others, especially the major servers, it’s still a big problem for free discussion in today’s world.
I am definitely more free here than Reddit, so I am not too worried. I would assume that the mods here are not ban-happy, and would only stop me if I was being irresponsible. I will try to do so.

1·17 days agoI generally frown on murder too. However, if there is no lawful option to stop people from becoming tyrants, raping kids, killing protesters, etc, then unlawful options tend to present themselves to otherwise civilised people.

2·23 days agoYou know what? Neoliberal democracy is dead, but there’s still a chance for liberal democratic values to rise again. I’ve been seeing some real anger from the libs since Petti. Real fucking hardcore anger from people who, before, I’d dismissed as asleep, willing to hide instead of fight.
It’s like seeing an accountant dad lose his shit and pick up a big old tree branch, shouting in rage, when some asshole punches his kid. I hope it’s not theater, and I hope it does not get catharsis from meaningless wins like Bovino.
The Democrat leadership is lost, but with enough anger, real liberal believers could just go in and hollow it out and wear the old party like a skin suit.

122·23 days agoExcuse me, we’re Chinese trolls, thanks very much; we are unhealthily obsessed with China because it’s incredibly economically successful, it’s the last hope of actual oldschool dictatorship of the worker socialism, and it’s barely avoided being controlled by the market.
It’s incredibly centralised, it’s authoritarian, yes, but it’s also building all the solar panels and executing billionaires when they get too powerful and making the imperial nations look like chumps, so you should forgive us for our infatuation.
My lack of action and lack of building local organisation? Guilty. I’m trying to correct this. China is not the model for the West, and even the Chinese govt says that, so as a true Chinahead I do not call for Chad Xi to come save us, that is missing the fucking point. We must grow our own socialist organisations to bypass the state, and anarchists and syndicalists might be the best idea for the West, with our individualism and love of freedom.

31·25 days agoYes, a warning shot does rely somewhat on the intelligence of the opponent. But that is their problem.
In this analogy, though, if you even get 10% participation in a one-day cessation of economic activity, that is something the companies and therefore the governments notice. It is not something they want to repeat, or get more popular participation. It is in fact better than a warning shot in that respect. It is an attack on the money.

Ah, that’s the problem, we’ve been getting all these chatbots to generate “hellworld.exe”.
