Contributing is an act of community. Anybody seeking to contribute should take time to learn, be thoughtful, and understand the needs of the project.

My advise to a student would be: don’t rush to contribute. Learning and being thoughtful is the right foundation. An LLM won’t help. In fact, being able to generate code beyond your means of understanding might make you a burden.

As a manager. This is an illusion. The bottleneck isn’t in writing the code. In fact, what I see over and over is overproduction leads to bottlenecks in the review queues and a complete breakdown in intentionality, planning, collaboration.

You get pressure to do because it’s easy on the surface to show output, but creating a good product is a systems problem that requires coordination and thought.

We’re seeing multiplication in output, not outcome.

If it’s so good, where are all these killer apps? It’s been years!

Also, according to the boosters, if it gets as good as they insist it’s going to get, we wouldn’t even need to learn how to use it!

At that point I’d be more concerned about the collapse of the economy than my specific job. Why buy any service when the replicator does it

I experienced this feeling during new years in shibuya. It’s scary af, you can no longer move, you’re part of a human liquid. Never again

EDIT: it’s the lack of acknowledgement that they didn’t discover it but the contributor had to go in and correct it, how they locked and deleted the article, etc. I was expecting a bit more tbh

What a shame. I’ve subscribed to ars for years. Their response was disappointing, it doesn’t talk about what happened and what they’re doing to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Nothing about how they handled them makes me trust that they won’t do it again.

the one thing that made my life better in this regard is: draw/write as you think.

The “poof” still happens, but you have a save state.
