I switched my laptop last year and installed Arch with Plasma 6 so it was working out of the box. My previous laptop had Arch with Plasma 5 and then updated to 6 and also had Gnome before that. So it could have been I might I have configured something over there to get those things working (I don’t remember doing that though) but the newer one had it by default.

You might have configured something that broke it because there ain’t no way what you are saying is not supported on Linux.

I know Arch is a rolling release so it doesn’t have that on purpose, but it’s not much better with Ubuntu - I was getting updates every couple of days, once a week at best.

You don’t have to update if you don’t want to and you can schedule your updates as well with a bash script (although I prefer to do it manually once a week). I have a Windows VM used for MS office and Adobe that hasn’t been updated for months.

I don’t know about desktop towers, for laptop it is always only one instance — my laptop display, monitor is dark before I hit enter. And for the normal KDE lockscreen, it does give it on both the screens but I can enter my password in any one of them and logon.

if you disconnect an extra screen, all the content gets dropped on the main screen. Since Windows 11, if you then re-connect the screen, all windows will pop back into their places before the disconnect happened.

Linux has all of this out of the box (don’t know about windows positions after reboot, I have never tried that even on Windows). What distro and DE are you using? I am using Arch with KDE Plasma and it has been pretty much flawless and stable for me.

For me it has worked everywhere. All of my media is in .mkv so it already contains the subtitles. It works in all browsers clients, Desktop clients, TV and Mobile clients. Works in VLC and MPV as well on desktop, TV and Mobile. Works with Kodi as well. Works on same network (via both host IP and reverse proxy) as well as remotely via Pangolin.

So you can try putting everything in one MKV Container or maybe change the subtitle formats (if that’s a thing).

I’m an atheist, and personally, I try not to judge anyone based on their religion — it generally works well, especially with upper and upper middle class communities. From my experience, upper class Muslims are usually integrated into society and not involved in shady activities.

I also don’t agree with government policies that discriminate against people based on religion like requiring proof of ancestry after Independence because such policies are unjust and target citizens unfairly.

That said, I do have concerns about certain practices in some lower income communities in India. Poverty, limited education and social isolation can make people more vulnerable to radical messaging. Madrasas (which btw are even attended by children younger than teenagers) teach extreme ideas, like framing conversion as a duty or promoting a black and white worldview. In rare cases, this can lead some individuals to embrace jihadist ideology or commit illegal acts in the name of religion. Social media can further amplify these messages. While most Muslims are peaceful, certain forms of radicalisation especially among vulnerable Islamic populations can be more organised and aggressive compared to similar movements in other major religions.

So even the propaganda by our right wing government is exaggerated, it does have some truth to it. It can be solved by eliminating all religious education in pre-teen ages and criminalising parents for forcing that type of education on children.

I used to pay for Ente as well but then I tried Immich & IMO is just so much better. It is THE Google Photos alternative with almost all the features. And as you said, you can get encryption with LUKSing your drive or partitions. I have automated my backups so I am pretty much at ease especially after the stable release.

All photos in Ente are E2EE — only client devices can decrypt it. Immich doesn’t have any encryption thus allowing anyone who manages the server to view your photos as they are. Immich is fully self-hosted while with Ente you have an option for paying Ente or self-host. I honestly prefer Immich because the features outweigh the encryption as I own the server myself and Ente is a bit complicated to setup — I think you even have to deploy the entire Ente Ecosystem Stack.

If you don’t want to pay Immich for backups, you can take care of off-site backups yourself using tools like rclone to your hard drive or any off-site storage of your choice. A paywall here would be not allowing offsite backups at all unless you pay Immich.

Even I want to believe that but I am an Indian and know how people think here.
