Sounds about right, except I think with ADHD you’re probably struggling to hold one or maybe two things in your head.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Most of Canada’s counter-tariffs on the U.S. have now ended
7·4 months agoConsumers tend to pay what the market will bear. It’s not impossible for food prices to come down but it isn’t a 1:1 relationship of tariff to price increase/decrease.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Word documents will be saved to the cloud automatically on Windows going forwardEnglish
4·4 months agoPart of why I still hate it at work; work knows almost everything about me. People with poor understanding of PII have my personal information, and use MS products. Microsoft knows all of that, and everything that I type, the notes I make, the phrases I use, inferences on my interests, and can combine that with other profiles. It helps put together a much more complete picture and profile of me and why I interface with. And I can’t opt out, can’t use Linux, and can’t just go somewhere else to avoid it.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL: Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Comcast (75%) and Warner Bros. Discovery (25%)English
6·5 months agoGiven the context of discussion, not really talking about art, more the trajectory of IT corporations since tech bubble crash. Even that, thankfully, is somewhat hyperbole given Linux and other open software movements and projects.
The online independent art platforms are also facing a lot of pressure in that direction too, between AI and corporate consolidation and fuck up of things like Etsy and patreon. They are trying very hard to control all “consumption”.

Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Seeing fewer fireflies this year? Here’s why, and how you can help.30·5 months ago- Turn off your porch lights. Fireflies are incredibly sensitive to artificial light and it can confuse them.
- Ditch the manicured lawn and embrace native plants. In addition to being easier to care for, they suit the local environment and conserve water.
- Leave some leaves behind when you rake in the fall. They’re a great place for fireflies to find food, stay cool, and lay eggs.
- Plant shrubs, tufting grasses, and other, large plants. These can shelter fireflies during rainstorms and other severe weather.
- If you spot fireflies, jot down when and where you saw them and add your observations to citizen science databases like iNaturalist, Firefly Watch or Firefly Atlas to help scientists collect data.

News@lemmy.world•That Dropped Call With Customer Service? It Was on Purpose.
8·6 months agoGood article, but the bit about airline customers being only slightly less likely to use the airline they hate is hardly something you can blame on customers.
If the alternatives either don’t exist (e.g., United is the only feasible route between city A and City B), or they are both shitty (Delta is just as shitty as United, so the fact that United breaks guitars doesn’t mean I’m more likely to pick Delta), then poor customer service is just the cost of existing.
Same situation as price gouging, or Apple vs Google, Ford vs Chevy, or Samsung vs LG. Yeah, you have options, but none of them respect you. So you can not travel, not communicate, and not be entertained, or you can “voluntarily” participate in what society has become.

Edit: I have a lot of trouble believing that a product that could theoretically have value to every person on the planet for current and every future generations, that can’t be passed along used or resold, couldn’t develop a successful sustainable business model.
