This is probably hardware-specific, but I installed void linux on my thinkpad x1 last week, and it can’t shutdown or wake up from sleep until I disabled tpm 2.0 from bios. Very weird. Other distros I tried so far didn’t have this problem.
windows 11: doesn’t work without tpm 2.0
(some) linux distro: doesn’t work if tpm 2.0 enabled
They probably don’t have a designer, but as a platform they’re actually solid. App devs can’t pull a switcheroo like uploading malicious apk because they can only upload source code (which will be made public), not binary. You can be sure apps you download there 100% generated from the published source code, unlike downloading from, say, release page on some random github repo.

You still have internet subscription, right? Next: run your own ISP
Wtf?! The boycott (sort of) works this time?!
I suspect most of kagi’s subscription money actually went to google’s pocket. Google charges a lot of money to access their search api, about $5/1000 queries.
Steam is still not updated to run natively on Apple Silicon-based Mac computers, nearly four years after Apple’s transition away from Intel CPUs started. It’s now a slow and clunky barrier to playing the games I own on my Mac computers—a far cry from the pro-consumer persona that Valve and Steam usually enjoy.
Kinda similar situation in linux where steam hasn’t been updated to use wayland. It’s flickery mess on nvidia hardware and a bit glitchy on intel and amd (like other electron/cef apps running under xwayland). Proton works great though.
What kind of drama did I miss?
Compromised iot devices sold as residential proxy is pretty hot right now: https://thehackernews.com/2024/03/themoon-botnet-resurfaces-exploiting.html?m=1
Those are targeting Linux routers and iot devices though. However, esp32 had vulnerabilities in the past such as the fatal fury attack, though it requires physical access to execute.

It could be worse. What would happen on people that live in UTC+12:00 ? When your friend say “lets meet on Tuesday”, which Tuesday it is (because the day changes at noon)? People will resist such majorly inconvenience changes unless the benefit of switching is clear for them. Forcing unpopular changes will guarantee people using unofficial timezone which cause even more confusion down the line.
Shit you’re right, I misremembered it.
Damn, I knew some people born in 1988 pick usernames that ends with 88. Does that mean they’re incorrectly identified as Nazi?
It’s not that simple as people has this urge to associate 12pm to noon and 12am to midnight. Just look at china where the whole country is under a single timezone despite spanning from UTC+05:00 to UTC+09:00. People on xinjiang ended up using their own unofficial timezone (UTC+06:00) for their daily activities instead of using china’s official timezone (UTC+08:00) because it’s inconvenient to them.
Can’t be that simple due to time dilation effect. Time moves at a different rate in moon, about 1s 58.7 μs difference per day.

Soon we’re going to have a new timezone for the moon. Yay, I guess?

This has to be a joke, right?
