I like this. I hope it starts conversations. Does anyone know if there are good alternatives to Discord?

Technology@lemmy.world•2023 in social media: the case for the fediverseEnglish
332·2年前I was excited to see this article written on the verge but then I read it. Seems like they are only interested in what the fediverse can do now that Threads is getting in and sticking their foot in the door. It’s likely they needed Meta as a corporation to validate federation as something with real potential. We need to be highly critical about the entities who just see this as another way to make money off our data

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Lemmy.world announces blocking communities via Discord [update]English
58·2年前This makes no sense to me. Did they provide a reason for choosing Discord of all things? What was wrong with making announcements on Lemmy? Why wouldn’t they choose to make announcements in another federated format in addition and not instead of lemmy? Like, I’m not super tech savvy but I’m sure they could set up an RSS-like feed to send out alerts? IDK

9·2年前NPR had the audacity to use a picture of a worker protesting for a living wage in this article. They completely miss the point of the protests and overall labor movement if they think it’s a customers responsibility to pay workers right.

Thank you for making sense!
