  • No not quite. For the record both my wife and I work at hospitals.

    The article itself reads:

It isn’t clear what Sarah’s doctors planned for her next step in care. Her family and staff who cared for her said she had shown improvements during the last month.

A discontinuation of a sitter following protocols during a 3 month stay is quite normal, and also a give-and-take of trust. All of this is going to come down to patient charting and whether the doctors followed protocol in discontinuing sitter monitoring for an SI patient. Clearly as the article reads there were signs of improvement and at some point that child would have to be discharged.

They also noted they wanted to move the child to an patient psych facility but they were full. At its core, a hospital is not a long-term care facility. To house a child for 3 months on this is beyond the scope of what most Hospitals are capable of adequately handling as acute care facilities, and yes, she should have been transferred to a pediatric psych facility… But again, the system is backlogged.

This is a system strained to its core. What should be emphasized here is 1) The psych unit would’ve had the PHYSICAL measures to prevent her from leaving, independent of anything else. Yes, this was a cut. 2) The entire medical system is under immense stress right now. A true crisis. Staffing shortages are absolutely one key aspect of this among others.

  • Here’s a fascinating piece of what appears to be censorship or extremely selective transcribing from transcripts of yesterday’s press briefings. You won’t find this in the transcript of C-SPAN, or the WhiteHouse.gov transcript.

During the White House press briefing yesterday, White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby remarked the following — note that’s in brackets was cut from the transcript:

REPORTER: THESE ARE VERBAL URGINGS, NOT COMMITMENTS.

MR. KIRBY: [I KNOW, YOU WANT US TO HANG SOME SORT OF CONDITION OVER THEIR NECK] WHAT I AM TELLING YOU IS WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE ISRAELIS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE AS PRECISE AS THEY CAN BE AND MORE AID IS GETTING IN AND WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE THAT APPROACH.

Yes, verbal conditions would be excellent. He claims the weapons are for defense, but they are clearly being used for disastrous offensive effect to civilians.

  • Ooooh yes. Something similar happened to me out of the blue back in January. I commented, verbatim:

Random fact that I recently learned and thought was kind of cool. One of the very first responses of your body when you get a cut or infection is to synthesize hydrogen peroxide in the area that signals your white blood cells to rally to that area.

I then linked to Science Daily and Harvard articles about it.

Temporary ban for “Harassment,” citing this comment.

Later on I incurred another infraction and my account was permabanned, citing my previous strike as justification for the permanent ban. Smfh. 250 characters to appeal…

Meanwhile these idiots excused cesspools like The_Donald for years. Meanwhile I report a person being objectively racist (Calling them “out of control” and “absolutely feral savages”) and… They reviewed it not once but twice and found nothing wrong. LOL.

I wrote this all up in a medium article in more detail but I’m half-tempted to send all my screenshots to Fidelity and some news outlets for shits.

  • Not terribly upset at this, but it does suck that we had to look to 3rd-party applications to be able to properly search our own comment history. I have thousands of comments going back a decade and I reference a lot of stuff to save time. In my pursuit to archive some of my write-ups, it became impossible to do so with the absence of Push Shift / Camas.

Oh well fuck it; Reddit admins royally fucked me over with a bullshit suspension and won’t even hear out an appeal. Bonus that they only let you use… 250 characters to explain.
