Ford has 3, the F-150 Lightning and the unfortunately named Mustang Mach-E, and the E-Transit van I think is primarily for commercial customers.

On the more affordable end around here I see a lot of electric cars from Ford, Chevrolet, Kia, and Hyundai around here, and to a lesser extent Volkswagen. On the high end it’s mostly Mercedes-Benz and BMW, sometimes Porsche. Once in a while I’ll see Rivian but they don’t have a dealership in our state. Even more rarely I’ll see Polestar, which does have a dealership in a city at the other end of the state, and at least one person here has a Lucid Air.

Edit: also on the high end, there’s at least one Hummer EV driving around here.

I’d say Facebook mothers group; a lot of the things they’re trying to illustrate seem like they’d only need a very minimal re-write to be placed on a picture of Minions.

These are shockingly bad! It’s a bunch of “memes” they created themselves by putting some text on top of stock photos from Getty Images, but they really just seem more like normal captions or descriptions for the photos. Then it’s all presented as a BuzzFeed/Bored Panda-style listicle. It’s almost an anti-meme, like an anti-joke.

I have a handy little app on macOS called TextSniper that takes a screenshot of a selected area, then runs OCR on that screenshot and puts the text on the clipboard. It’s perhaps the most useful $10 I’ve ever spent and I’m frankly surprised this doesn’t exist on other systems. A year or two after this was released Apple started letting people copy text directly out of images, so they might do the usual Apple thing of killing it by directly adding it to the OS. There might be something like this on Linux by now but I haven’t heard of it on Windows.

Years ago I was talking to some engineers at one of the main gas pump manufacturers. They were venting about their company’s partnership with Verifone. While they used to handle credit card reading themselves in the magnetic stripe days, the switch to chip credit cards and readers in the U.S. meant they were going to partner with an established card reader company and Verifone (at least at the time) was the largest and most established in the new chip technology. Verifone was dominating the partnership and making life difficult for the gas pump company, insisting on all sorts of changes to the devices that weren’t necessary for the gas pump but were going to let them do things like run ads at the gas pump. If the pump manufacturer didn’t go along with it, Verifone seemed to have a very credible threat that they were just going to leave and go to the other main gas pump manufacturer. The gas pump companies needed the card reader a lot more than the other way around.

So, these ads have been a long time coming, but it wasn’t the pump manufacturer that had the idea or wanted to do it.

Ever since it came out that the company they partnered with to remove personal information from data brokers was owned by a guy who’d started and owned numerous data brokers, I’ve become a little skeptical that they’re doing their due diligence on their partners.

Of course, it’s still probably better than Google at least.
