  • No, not all Russians are evil and deserve to die. But closing your eyes and playing oblivious to what’s happening out there, just believing the state propaganda and living in a position “oh it’s just the bad leader” is not a morally OK position.

If there is a dictator in your country you have some moral duty to find out at least a bit about the truth.

    How do I know?

    I’m German.

My grandparent’s generation was the one that actively closed their eyes, that actively looked away, that everything that happend was someone else’s problem. They were the Generation that arranged themselves, that did good business as long as it wasn’t them that were deported, killed or fought at in the war.

This is not a position that is morally OK, but this is what I see of a lot of Russians. Not all, but a lot.

  • When I urgently needed to print something a few years ago I ran to the store and purchased the cheapest laser printer I could find, which was a Ricoh for Eur 42. Windows GDI printer shit, but I also found Mac drivers and a working linux driver.

It waa the low end model, had the same printing mechanism as the larger Ricoh Multifunction things and third party toner was dirt cheap. Ah and I can’t remember any paper jam.

Inkjets, especiallw those from HP are a scam.

I only threw out the (fully working) Ricoh after years, because someone gave me a network connected full color Oki Multifunction led printer device for free.

(Ah I checked later, “normal” price for the Ricoh when not on sale was Eur 75 or so)

(Update: changed wording & inserted the missing “always”, I just wanted to warn people of other situations, not rule out it can happen like this - there just might be no warning at all when falling asleep while driving )

Falling asleep while driving doesn’t always work like that. Your brain can also just shut off.

Many years ago I was going the Autobahn from Munich to Nuremberg - going with 150 km/h, 95 mph or so.

I was driving in the middle lane of 3, it was Friday early evening (around 6) and still daylight.

As said I was on the middle lane, low traffic (fortunately!) and suddenly I was on the left lane.

I was just out for a few seconds, enough time for the car to wander over to the left lane.

That probably was my closest situation to dying in traffic.

(I switched my schedule to not drive 2 hours after work THAT DAY)

  • In huge parts of the world these are standardized and readable as well - where Vienna Convention signs are being used. (Those with have more pictograms).

Detours are also labelled by standard signs in a pre-determined font with a specific reflectivity. Easy for a car to recognize.

And even without text recognition is one of the really easy parts of self driving. I’ve done development on document recognition for random bank statements, builinng plans and legal documents - all the paperwork for financing a house - before. Those documents come in in various fonts, layouts differently formatted etc.
