“Have these gentlemen ever seen a revolution? A revolution is certainly the most authoritarian thing there is; it is the act whereby one part of the population imposes its will upon the other part by means of rifles, bayonets and cannon”

If you wanted to pick a socialist country to portray as a “one party scary dictatorship” Cuba is the least fit. Cuba is a zero-party democracy in a way.

So much for the free marketplace of ideas, I can’t even get Putinbucks in peace now…
Not OP but many Linux project I follow, since they don’t have many resources, publish their releases through Torrent, a seeebox is fairly cheap (something like €10 a month) and could be easily crowdfunded even for a small project, and isn’t a huge expense anyway. And the site could just be a static page, or better yet the magnet link could be aviable on Github for people that want the precompliled binaries instead of the source.
E: did i say something controversial?

I remember setting up chrome on win10 in my tech-normie days and getting a similar thing, maybe my memory is failing me.
frippa@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft now pops up a poll asking why you'd want to use another browser when you download ChromeEnglish5·1 year agoThe competition between Chrome and Edge is very shallow, they’re two slightly altered and heavily branded reskins of chromium, the real competition would be Firefox and it’s forks (mullvad, waterfox, librewolf) (and maybe webkit aka safari) Vs chromium but there’s no big corporation behind those (except safari, but it has many of the problems that big corpo chromium browsers have) , so they’re struggling a lot.

Still a step in the good direction though.

frippa@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Streaming TV costs now higher than cable, as 'crash' finally hitsEnglish1·2 years agoI don’t really have experience with plex (I only used jellyfin) but AFAIK plex has ads, collects data and has paid plans, although their UI should be nicer, something you could circumvent with custom CSS (freely aviable on jellyfin’s site) there are many plex vs jellyfin comparisons online, but as far as I understood jellyfin is just FOSS self hosted plex with a slightly worse UI and maybe less device compatibility (still a lot of it, considering it’s a FOSS small project not backed by companies)
frippa@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Streaming TV costs now higher than cable, as 'crash' finally hitsEnglish5·2 years agoI don’t know if it’s a r/whoooosh, but “Linux ISOs” is a way to refer to pirated content. You download movies, music, shows etc and then put it on your jellyfin server. It comes from the fact that downloading Linux ISOs is pretty much the only legal use case for a bit torrent client
Well he was world famous, I’m not from the US myself but most genX and older (~40+) knew about him and his trial at least superficially
