LOL :D
The new name is far better than the old name. It’s short, and easy to remember for non tech people. “Post Market OS” is something only geeks or tech people won’t have trouble remembering.

Linux@programming.dev•Decentralized VPN with hole punching?(Tailscale with decentralized control server)
1·11 days agoDuring the Internet outages in Iran, most of the nodes inside the country are still accessible through most ISPs. The advertised self healing of yggdrasil sounds promising.
But just for anyone else’s information reading this, we also have censorship on servers inside the country. TLDR, the law has completely vanished in here. You just have to fight, or hide to not get censored or otherwise caught.

1·11 days agoMe stance on AI is neutral for now. Though, for meself, I try to keep away from it for intelligent tasks. However, rayfish looks very promising.

Linux@programming.dev•Decentralized VPN with hole punching?(Tailscale with decentralized control server)
1·11 days agoIt’s a new global network built on Internet. right? I guess maybe we could use it during Internet outage, here in Iran, using the internal country network.

Linux@programming.dev•Lightweight graphical Email client with RTL support?
1·13 days agoGiven all the options, Thunderbird and Evolution seem to be the best. So I’m sticking to Thunderbird…
Ah of course not Linux related. I don’t know what I thought when cross posting it…
Do you have an alternative community suggestion on programming.dev?

Programming@programming.dev•Senior Engineers Are the Next DRAM Shortage
41·23 days agoEveryone thinks LLMs boost productivity. But from psychological point of view, the developer being both the subject and the object is no where near scientific and reliable.
In other words, the developer who is using the LLM also reports they are productive. But humans can rarely be good judge over themselves. That’s why we’ve got therapists. So we have to wait for some serious and well done research if LLMs boost productivity.
Another concern I have which prevents me from using LLMs, is the unknown long term effect on the codebase. You know, writing something is much easier than maintaining it for years after years. And every decision you make, you must be mindful of this. So I’m gonna wait and see what’ll happen after 1-3 years to the softwares with heavy LLM assists. Will their codebase still be easy to maintain?

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Privacy-focused mail providers (FOSS preferred)?
1·23 days agoAny provider which provides IMAP and SMTP over TLS is good. If you want privacy, you have to use E2EE through a mail software which supports it. However, I personally use riseup.net(Don’t ask me for an invite code!)
As a bonus, there is also DeltaChat which provides E2EE email in a nice chat interface. https://delta.chat/ It also supports mini apps through https://webxdc.org/

Open Source@lemmy.ml•We need a list of products we can buy without worrying about telemetry or advertising.
3·23 days agoDo you choose projects or products based on side of their owner? Or based on how good the product is?
Me linux distro is not the best. “The best” varies from person to person and also in accord to different positions in time.

yeah yeah yeah. Even tho the first generation of programmers were women, still they say “women are not fit for logical works like programming and math”.
