Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL about Sublinks, a Java-based alternative to Lemmy's backendEnglish
3·2 years agoI’ve been a Java dev for roughly 20 years and still find it a very comfortable way to write code. Most of the complaints I hear about it (e.g. verbose) are wildly overstated or just plain wrong (e.g. slow).
Of course, a lot of it comes down to the developer - anyone can write bad code in any language.

126·2 years agoI disagree - Java seems like the ideal choice for this. I might be in the minority in that view, though. Java seems to get a lot of hate.

Technology@lemmy.world•‘There is no such thing as a real picture,’ says Samsung exec.English
10·2 years agoLow end hardware made the user experience frustrating and the overall performance was poor. It’s annoying because the concept is good, but a phone that’s supposed to be your “long term phone” shouldn’t be painful to use after only months. It’s certainly very repairable - or seemed to be. I didn’t actually have to ever repair mine, but if I’m going to deliberately have a phone for a long time then I need it to stay off with specs that mean it’ll still perform after three or four years.

Technology@lemmy.world•Fragging: The Subscription Model Comes for GamersEnglish
1133·2 years agoThere is a middle ground, though and it’s called leasing. It’s what we get most of the time when we “buy” digital content. They call it buying, but leasing describes it more accurately.
Edit: not saying I like it - I don’t, just making an observation.

No, but Munich did something similar a while back. Different German town, similar headlines.
