We have a pretty thin slice of the pie here. I’m not saying that this is right, but it does explain why you see such a concentration of bad behavior. Also, the age group for Lemmy is primarily 30-39.

The reality is when you have a concentration of any one demographic group, you’re going to see this sort of thing. With a lack of diversity across all categories, you get yet another echo chamber. Unless we get some more people in here who are not more of the same, Lemmy is going to turn into 4chan real fast.

blargh513@sh.itjust.worksto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK Employers do NOT verify your total work history unless you're applying for a government position.7·5 days agoLast two places I worked we used HireRight to run background checks on all new hires. I have my own document. I worked in Cyber; one company was data analytics, the other was finance.
The service will take the information you submitted at application and verifiy if it is true. They literally call former employers and the schools you list (college only). They run a public records check and when its all done, it goes to the HR goons. I never saw the reports except my own. Each one costs about $600. There are always some minor discrepancies, the company will add a note; if there are little ones, they will note and advise that there is nothing concerning. I never had one come back bad. A different leader did, and it just means that they have a conversation with the candidate and let them explain.
On mine, I had some criminal history hits for a different person with the same name as me. They were in states where I did not live and it was pretty clear it was someone else. They also did a credit report.
So they are real and they do happen. They are VERY thorough. They are also expensive and most places dont want to pay for them. I had it done as I was a senior director in cyber security. I doubt all parts of the workforce have it done.

Could he just perhaps pull a reverse card and go un-crazy? Do something useful instead of just making everything worse?
blargh513@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•BREAKING: X CEO Linda Yaccarino Steps Down One Day After Elon Musk’s Grok AI Bot Went Full HitlerEnglish8·19 days agoHuh? Richest dude on the planet did and nothing bad has happened to him. Sadly, it appears to be 100% ok to go full Hitler anymore.
If only these people would go FULL Hitler and finish themselves off (sooner rather than later).

Not bad, and it solved it correctly.
blargh513@sh.itjust.worksto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•In California, plans to move low-income neighborhoods off of gas advance1·1 month agoInterior air quality is a problem long solved by ventilation fans. You should run them regardless of the type of cooking appliance used. Now that many homes and apartments do not have ventilation that exhausts to the outside is a different problem.
blargh513@sh.itjust.worksto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•In California, plans to move low-income neighborhoods off of gas advance31·1 month agoRead another way: poor people no longer allowed to use gas, that’s only for the wealthy.
Seriously, since when does anything good start with poor people? High speed internet–nope. Better cellular coverage–hell no.
How about they “decarbonize” Beverly Hills first? I’m sure they’d be thrilled to give up their poolside fire pits and Viking ranges in the name of cleaner air. I’m sure they’d not mind it if their whole-house generators were now useless.
I believe that we need to reduce the use of fossil fuels, but this approach feels very imbalanced and makes me question the intent. At least you can still cook or have hot water during a power outage. If nothing else, why fucking remove the infrastructure?! If this is such a great thing, leave the gas lines in place and let the utilities subsidize the switch to all-electric. Also, with all energy coming from a single source, I worry that this is an attempt to remove alternatives and spike costs to the consumer by green washing the whole thing.
I’d love to see how this really helps the air quality. Until we can effectively displace and shut down natural gas power generation, it will still be a factor.

They are masters of creating extremely confusing plans for pricing that involve bundling, discounts for various combinations, etc. In the end, you get a fat ass bill at the end of every month. When you ask them to explain it, they will say that this component was generated by one team, another by a different…
You will never get a straight answer and if you do, it will take weeks. By then you have another bill and you get to start all over.
I am so over Microsoft and their bullshit. I don’t use any of their shit at home and I actively remove anything I can of theirs at work. Punting Defender out of our environment was my best day ever.
I am 99% certain that our house is the only one in the neighborhood that doesn’t use chemlawn. Springtime is dandelion season and its great. Now the clover is in full effect. I love that the bees and bunnies are going to chow town. Gonna hit the back yard next spring with the microclover. I’d love to get the point of a monthly mow. I hate grass and mowers. If I could let it go full meadow I totally would. Mainly because I know it pisses off all the old buzzards who have nothing to do beyond sweep their driveway 3 times a day.
YEAH THAT SOUNDS FUCKING HORRIBLE, TORTURE REALLY.
I however am the rare american who is enjoying my third uninterrupted week of total freedom. This is because I was fired from my job three weeks ago. Corporate restructuring my ass.
The time is nice and I did get some severance, but there is zero enjoyment knowing that if I don’t land a job soon, I will be hard fucked. Sorry kids, we are canceling music lessons, and any other recreations until your loser unemployed parent can get work again. Wheee!
I make it a point to steal a little something every time I’m forced to use these.
Big box hardware stores appear to have zero people to check you out anymore, so they all give me something every time I shop.
Pro tip: they won’t bother if you dont steal anything expensive. Additionally, there are cameras in the ceiling that are working with the register to see what is in the cart and determine if you have scanned everything. Buy a cardboard box (cheapest thing that works). Lay it over your cart. Put stuff under it and now the system cant see your cart to determine if you stole something. A GFCI outlet or two never seem to go noticed.
I love every part of this song. It is so densely packed with solid jabs, just incredible AND catchy as hell.
This is brilliance. Loved it when Bo’s special came out, it just continues to ring true now.
