  • No one designs roads. They put numbers in a spreadsheet and have useless meetings. I keep seeing huge fuckups that people with a PE are making.

Longer I work in infrastructure the more I don’t much care for or respect civil “engineers”. I got a system coming out now and the civil “engineer” has insisted on so many bad ideas that I am writing in the manual dire warnings that boil down to “if you use this machine there is no warranty and pray to whatever God you believe in”

It’s a fixable problem but we aren’t going to fix it.

  • Just because you own something does not mean there are no rules. I can own property that doesn’t mean I get to light it in fire, or dump chemicals on it that cause an environmental nightmare, or kill a protected animal, or fish a river flowing through it without a license, or run a meth lab on it…

You own your body and image. 5th amendment. Not having absolute unlimited power over both doesn’t change who the owner is. Frankly this type of black and white thinking is lolitarian logic.

  • I had it write an operation manual for a client I particularly hate. Told it to make it sound condescending by dumbing it down just to the point where I could deny it. The first few times it just sounded like a 5th grade teacher talking to a kid while in a bad mood, but eventually it figured out if it just repeated itself enough it got the effect I wanted.

Things like: user is to disconnect power before attempting to repair. It is vital that the step of disconnecting power before attempting to repair is carried out.
