I live in Canada, we have universal healthcare and we still have a huge homelessness problem. Its because everything is so fucking expensive now and there is pretty much zero support for mentally ill people or drug addicts. I live in a relatively small town and we even have a few homeless camps around. The police will raid them and make them move all their shit out every once in a while, but then they just come back again, they have nowhere to go

Honestly it doesn’t even really matter anymore. We should’ve phased out fossil fuels about 30 years ago to have a chance. Just going to enjoy the next 10 years as the climate absolutely shits itself

I’m a construction worker in Ontario, and I know it’s anecdotal, but almost every trade worker has told me the same thing - we’re busy as hell but we can’t find guys to hire. Pretty much for the past 3 or 4 years, that’s all I’ve heard. I was pretty much hired on the spot when I joined the carpenters union in 2019, and I worked with a 19 year old kid who walked into the union hall the day before, and they asked him if he could start the next day. With literally 0 experience. I think we are really hurting for trade workers.

Yeah I was impressed he actually did change his opinion. He’s weird like that though, like he’s definitely a bit of the old school boomer racist when he talks about black people, Asians, Arabs etc. but, his last job before he retired he worked with a bunch of people of all different races. And he would come home saying like “Oh yeah I worked with a bunch of Koreans today, they are all such great guys!” Or he’d tell me about how helpful and nice some Indian guy was to him, or how some black guy was so nice and such a hard worker.

But then he would go right back to blaming immigrants for everything, or thinking that black people are coming to torch their neighbourhood. He’s not actually racist to the people he meets in real life, just the theoretical shit he hears on the news.

My dad is a boomer and up until the last year or so, he was one of those classic “the earth is just going through cycles” climate change deniers. The weather we’ve had in the last year has changed him, we’ve had multiple huge storms where he would say he’s never seen that in his life, and he’s lived in the same area for over 60 years. He’s now convinced that we as humans are completely screwed and the climate is fucked. And he’s right.

How about we call for that fucking cunt Doug Ford to resign?

My biggest complaint, as someone who’s been working in the trades in Ontario since 2010, is that the amount of money that houses are worth has gone up like 400%, but the pay for the actual workers has barely gone up at all.

I remember when I first started working in a subdivision, there were billboards up saying you could get the cheapest base model houses for $200k. Those houses now are probably worth almost $800k, and the guys working in the houses probably make an extra couple bucks an hour compared to when those houses were selling for $200k.

So the developers are making huge money, the real estate agents are making huge money, the landlords and people who can afford these properties are making huge money too. But the people who actually build the houses make fuck all.

I fucking hate this world, all of us working class people need a general strike like right now.
