I’m a bit further north, but I noticed that egg prices at the local health foods co-ops that source eggs from smaller farms stayed pretty consistent while prices at bigger chain stores that source from mega farms doubled for a while. I assumed the difference was due to increased animal density requiring culling for the mega farms, price gouging, or both.

I’m in agreement with you, though I still think it’s a fair suggestion for people putting the world before themselves to find another line of work too. I’m not saying that’s the only reasonable suggestion. I’m all for trying to mitigate the risk of abuse and trauma in the first place. I took Optional’s comment as an intended show of support to folks that might be struggling with similar abuse in their life.

If your job is causing you enough mental anguish to go through with suicide, it’s reasonable to suggest you find another. That goes for any job.

Yeah, I’m with you. I tend to agree with the idea that fuel economy and emissions regulations incentivize auto makers to manufacture the ridiculously huge trucks we have today. I’m super curious to see if smaller body styles become a thing again once this incentive starts to evaporate.

Have you seen pics of it? It looks about the size of an old Toyota pickup.

I get the sentiment, but the braindead coal rollers are a pretty small minority. I don’t doubt there’s a demand for ev trucks, in fact the increased torque is pretty appealing, but one of the common concerns I’ve read is how towing anything substantial kills their range. This evaluation showed all trucks tested attaining less than half their non-towing range. Probably still enough for folks towing to the next town over and back, but it’d give me pause if I was hauling equipment to a worksite an hour or so away.

$6 at the station closest to me today

I doubt it. They probably just hang with the neo Nazis.

Does it really matter if he’s deliberately advancing a fascist agenda?

Makes sense, that’s where my local NIMBYs hang too.

Maybe it’s because I don’t really know anyone passionate on either side of this issue, but I’ve never heard of this argument. I know you said it’s a bad faith argument, but I can’t really imagine what a cyclist’s fair share would be aside from maybe widening a road to add a bike lane lol
News orgs, and frankly many public institutions, seem to be lliability averse to a fault. My guess is journalists have generally been instructed to use passive language to avoid libel lawsuits due to the expense of settlement or counsel fees.
Passive language has become so common in journalism these days, and the far right terrorist cohort realizes the vocal minority bad faith pearl clutching schtick works well enough that they continue to threaten litigation against objective truth regularly. It’s Trump’s MO, and I assume it works because those being sued are terrified his base will be out for blood if he doesn’t get his way.
The more the news orgs settle and normalize this shit, the more inertia there is to get back to reality. It’s maddening, tbh.
