It’s maybe a few clicks to find the add-ons store in Firefox then searching “uBlock Origin”. Hell, when I switched to Firefox last year, I want to say there was even an onboarding that pointed me to the extension upon setup.
Just came across the Pinephone. Looks like they’ve figured out how to do modular wireless charging for their platform that still allows free access to the USB-C port, but this isn’t compatible with phones that don’t have pogo pins.
There are models out there that I’ve seen that have designed the cables to act more like bus bars that bend at sharp 90° in a flat strip profile, where the bend is less pronounced. But I agree that would be a failure point as time goes on to watch. I don’t really remove my phone case all that often, so I don’t think it’d be that big of a deal. They’re like $10 total for a replacement off of Amazon, so price nor schedule is an issue either.
There are Qi adapters out there for phones without wireless charging built in. See this CNET article. It’s not perfect, but a simple Google search says it’s possible. Plus, adding this adapter and hiding it inside your phone case has the benefit of protecting your phone’s charge port from dust and other ingress. I use wireless chargers for all my phone charging, so this is a viable option in case I ever want to go with a Fairphone or a Shiftphone (maybe even a Cube).
The headphone jack thing is annoying. I’d buy their Fairphone 4 to have the option between wired and wireless.
There’s also Shiftphone out of Germany, but it looks like they’re still securing funding for their next round of phones.
Messed up world out there
So ignorant, if you’ve had to do any digital research, you know these tools intimately
Internet Archive is essential now. I used to use Google Cached for when IA failed. All researchers are now losing that resiliency.
Made the switch to Firefox last year. Love, love, love the freshness and versatility of the browser! Also add-ons for mobile!!!
Eggs and parmigiano reggiano were the last thing I gave up before changing. It took the environment + health + morality arguments to cement it for me.
So fucking stupid, we can’t wait for corporations to fix our systems. It’s one thing to allow rezoning so that such a project can be built and then offer the project/bid it out to someone like Musk to build, but it’s another thing to place all expectations in a corporation on for them to completely drop the ball.
Hope this gets put on the ballot again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, fuck me
Edit: ballot not ballet :)
Lenny ftw, so much better than Reffit
I was here!!!
I sort by TopDay and that seems to get me quite popular content, but Hot is also good for new stuff. Love the options for sorting on Connect for Lemmy
Yupp, older zoomer here. The thought of decentralized anything seems cooler to me so I thought I’d give it a try
Sub-30 yo but super-20 yo
STEM equal, just not tech
Windows user (although I have Linux installed on my PC)
Close, but rly close enough
Definitely participator, but I have some ideas for contributing some day. I just don’t want to share other stuff that’s online, I’d rather share my research into a given topic and what conclusions I drew that might help people. I want to publish works here, not really other stuff on the internet.
Not sure if Lemmy is the place for that though, given how it’s a link aggregator. People posted their works on Reddit so I’d say it’s good enough to post stuff like that here
And the fancier cups/stronger or bigger wire that Meta has the resources to build is the “Extend” part of EEE where their instance seems better than all the others, so inevitably some users (i.e. humans) will migrate if anything but out of sheer convenience. And then when it’s convenient, Meta defederated, closes the data channels, and people are left in their convenient instance where they are happy with the content being fed to them. Meanwhile, Meta uses all the tactics in the book to make the rest of the fediverse seem like the dark web to scare away non-technical users.
Definitely a scary thought.
Defederation is definitely the play here at first because it doesn’t give Meta a chance to Extend, but it does rely on the admins making that decision and holding that position for as long as Meta exists on the fediverse.
Can we hold? Depends on ideals, money, effort, and time.
I know that I as a user will just choose the next biggest instance to jump to as soon as the biggest instance ever federates with any corpo platform. It’ll take more and more effort to vet more and more instances over time, but it’s worth it.
Users can still block instances though with Lemmy, yeah? So even if admins of instances don’t block Threads, I’d imagine users would be able to. Maybe I’m misinterpreting the capabilities of the software, however.
