I found that once an event has happened at least 2 years ago, I start to forget what year exactly it happened and have to stop and think. That seems to be the threshold for me.

There might be, but he did not let us know about it if there is.
Nope, 100% real. My roommate has a pet and the landlord forced them to pay a $50/month pet fee.
Don’t forget that your landlord forces you to pay through a 3rd party company that charges a “convenience” fee of ~3% so your $600 rent is actually $620.
Ask me how I know.
Plushie Dreadful! A friend got me the genderfluid one. Though now you have me considering that one.

Reminds me of this photo I got of some friend’s dogs. Izzy on the right is pretty relaxed, but Willow really isn’t sure what she should be doing.

Technology@lemmy.zip•'OLED and LCD will die out’: A microLED expert explains how the superior TV tech will finally become affordableEnglish
31·10 months agoI have a 34" IPS ultrawide from 2018 that I’ve been using heavily for work and personal use (essentially 14+ hours a day). Since it’s an IPS panel I have no worry about burn-in. And I can keep using it for another 6-7 years without worrying about it.
With an OLED panel in the same scenario, I’d expect to see some burn in happening within 3 years of getting it.

17·2 years agoEven then, this is still a solid 30-40% increase in downloads. That’s statistically significant right there.

46·2 years agoI see a k following the numbers, so I’m assuming that’s total number of downloads.
Huh, I never knew of ARFID, but that fits me particularly well, especially as a kid. I will have to dig into this more.
For me, I found a relatively healthy comfort food (yogurt with granola; sometimes with berries) and have that for lunch most days. The granola makes it easy to load up on calories/carbs while it, and the yogurt, also provide a good amount of protein. Berries can add a bit of fiber. It’s always delicious for me. I’ve been eating it consistently for years now and I’ve yet to get sick of it. However if you’re lactose intolerant, this might not be a viable option.
Edit: reading the comments reminded me of another thing: protein shakes. I buy a container of whey protein mix from Walmart/Meijer and mix that with a glass of whole milk when I don’t have the energy to make anything. It is delicious. The strawberry one tastes like strawberry milk and the vanilla one tastes just like vanilla ice cream but in milk form.
Water can be used in place of milk if you don’t have any, or are intolerant, but it’s nowhere near as good; it’s just not the same.It would be nice if I had more healthy comfort foods, but that’s a work in progress.
Otherwise I supplement with a multivitamin to make sure I’m not deficient in anything.
My thought process was always, 'It’s better to not say anything at all than to accidentally say the wrong thing."

Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit Is Letting Power Users In on Its IPO. Not Everyone’s BuyingEnglish
11·2 years agoThis is the big thing. There are multiple niche, and not-so-niche, subreddits that just don’t exist here. Or they have nowhere near the presence as on Reddit.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m trying to fix that by contributing where I can, but I am just one person.

Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI collapses media reality with Sora AI video generator | If trusting video from anonymous sources on social media was a bad idea before, it's an even worse idea nowEnglish
10·2 years agoThis is only the beginning. It’s only going to get harder and harder to know what is and isn’t real online.
Sure, you and I are aware of this and have an idea of what to look out for. But do my older parents or grandparents know about this stuff and what to look for? I seriously doubt it.
I, too, prefer talking online/through text than verbally. It gives me time to collect my thoughts and put them in to words. In person I often fumble over my words. Or swap words in a sentence.
I also don’t have to worry about people interrupting me to chime in with something while I’m speaking. That always throws me off my thought process and it leaves me kind of scrambling for a response. Which almost always defaults to a short, one or two word answer. This also happens to make job interviews one of the most stressful things for me to ever deal with. It is so mentally exhausting trying to give good eye contact, have a friendly facial expression, not stim, and then answer whatever curveball questions they throw at me in a timely manner.
0/10 do not recommend.
For me it’s one of the two sets my parents use. One set is smooth, shiny, and nice to hold. The other has lots of detail which looks neat, but is unenjoyable to hold. So I avoid them whenever I can.
I used to do that a lot back in middle school. Then a girl made fun of me for it, so I stopped and would only listen to it in my head.
Are you me? I feel almost exactly the same way. I also feel my parents shouldn’t have become parents when they did.

Technology@lemmy.world•1.8 Million Barrels of Oil a Day Avoided from Electric VehiclesEnglish
3·2 years agoI would have to dig to find it, but I remember reading years ago in a Car and Driver article that EV’s powered by even the dirtiest coal power plants will still return around 30 MPGe, which is better than most vehicles on the road today.
Granted that article was from before the Hummer EV, so I’m sure that number will have changed somewhat.

You could look at a console emulator (I.E. Dolphin, PCSX2, Xemu, etc} and look for ways to contribute. There’s always something to fix or improve with those. The devs for them will most likely welcome your help.
