NightFantom@slrpnk.netto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that apart from not having kids, living car - free is actually the most effective way to lower your carbon footprint.3·1 month ago-1 child per year is an impressive number to keep up, especially from prison. On the flip side, the number of cars you drive or transatlantic flights you take from prison might also be very low.

NightFantom@slrpnk.netto Physics@mander.xyz•Observation of Soliton-like Interactions in a 1D 'Pure Ether Theory' Model (Simulation Results)1·3 months agoNot a physicist, but question: how does the passing through each other relate to particles in the standard model? Is that something that’s been observed? If not, is that something that could feasibly be tested (soon)?

I’m wondering as well
NightFantom@slrpnk.netto Programming@programming.dev•Going old-school: I'm reading "How to Design Programs" by MIT Press, and using LISP variation2·3 months agoIn university we had c++ and python courses alongside each other, and I currently get paid to write python. I honestly believe my knowledge of c++ (and of course the rest of the courses which went deeper into cpu architectures and data structures and whatnot) makes me a better python programmer, because of the deeper understanding of what goes on under the hood.

NightFantom@slrpnk.netto Solarpunk Farming@slrpnk.net•New Study Challenges Environmental Claims of Grass-Fed Cows4·4 months agoLol, no offence but I didn’t need a study to know that several years per animal can’t compete with yearly (or faster) crops in efficiency. As long as you get all your nutrients somehow, meat is never going to win in footprint, be it carbon, drinkable water, or whatever. Still, more studies is more better, and I’m glad they’re continuing but anyone eating meat shouldn’t be kidding themselves.
NightFantom@slrpnk.netto Programming@beehaw.org•Finding projects that need user testing?11·2 years agoI’d wager most, if not all of them. Ideally you’d have a program you want to use because it’s promising, but instead you keep returning to whatever you used before that because certain use cases aren’t handled well (or at all).
NightFantom@slrpnk.netto Technology@lemmy.world•What are the best asymmetric encryption algorithms for encrypting files?English2·2 years agoI usually (but not often enough tbh) refer to owasp documentation, like this one https://cheatsheetseries.owasp.org/cheatsheets/Cryptographic_Storage_Cheat_Sheet.html They basically say elliptic curves for asymmetric encryption, or RSA with a key of at least 2048 bits
Lmao I hope you get paid in a stronger currency than russian dollars
