Google’s is just very commonly used because 8.8.8.8 is easy to remember, but there are thousands of others run by entities big and small, and there’s nothing stopping you from running your own (assuming you manage to get a hold of a static IPv4)

Do you have a static IP address? CG-NAT has done a really great job of hindering torrents, since my understanding is that at least one side of the connection needs to have an open port. So, if you don’t, then only the few people who do are able to download from you, which can make it seem like no one wants your stuff.

I would not bother archiving the mainstream releases that can already be found on many torrent sites (like, you don’t need to archive Star Wars or Lord of the Rings) and focus on the bootleg disks first. You just need any standard DVD drive, then use Handbreak to rip the disks to a video file. For official releases, many of them have forms of copy protection, but 15 minutes on Google should tell you how to get around any you come across.

Also, for reference, “burning” a DVD is writing data to a disk, so the opposite of what you’re trying to do.

One thing to keep in mind: if someone gave you a 5.25" floppy disk with this type of data on it, even if the data was perfectly readable, would you have any way to do it? You’d need to hunt down someone whos into retro technology and hope you can figure out how to decode the information. The format itself became obsolete, so even if the data would theoretically be accessible, the means to access said data may not be.

Point is, what are the chances that CD drives will be around in hundreds of years outside of a museum or personal collection? They’re already becoming more and more uncommon after only a couple decades. But there really isn’t a great solution to this, especially when it comes to video, because you can’t just print it out.

Pretty much every smaller Android manufacturer only gives two years of updates. Google and Samsung are the biggest two, and it’s great that they’re giving longer support, but if you want to try another manufacturer (Asus, for example), you’re getting two years.

Look, I dislike Apple’s walled-garden as much as the next guy, but let’s give credit where it’s due. Apple has been phenomenal at supporting its older devices, much longer than most Android manufacturers. The iPhone 7 only recently stopped getting updates, and it was from 2016. The standard for Androids is still 2 years, so when it comes to long term device support, the point undeniably goes to Apple.

No, only if you’ve overclocked and the fault is one that could be caused by overclocking. Honestly, I think it’s absolutely fair for them to not replace a CPU if you killed it yourself by running it outside of spec. Most manufacturers would just say you’re SOL if your CPU dies and it’s ever been overclocked, even if the issue is unrelated, so I think this is a pretty good policy for them to have.

Granted, it’s possible that they could always say that it was the overclocking that killed it whenever the fuse is blown, but considering how heavily AMD leans into customer good-will and positive sentiment about the company, they will probably try their best to honor any legitimate warranty claims.

Possibly. It’s impossible to know how they keep track of who to roll it out to. It could be IP-based, or they could put a cookie on your browser that could stick around even after you log out.
