It’s literally the first full sentence you’ll read if you google her name, and it says so on the page her name links to in the article, in case you wondered what level of fact checking and editorial oversight we’re dealing with here.
I used to have that when I was a teenager. About one out every ten times I was falling asleep just at the moment I drifted off I’d feel this crazy big pop that went from deep behind my right eye to the top right part of my skull. Sometimes it was more like a noise, sometimes it was more like a physical impact, like somebody bounced a golf ball off of my skull. It was really annoying. It started to happen less and less as I got older though. It pretty much went away completely by the time I was in my late 20s.
The headline is slightly misleading. 2.8 million searches were halted, but according to the article they didn’t attempt to figure out how many of those searches came from the same users. So thankfully the number of secret pedophiles in the UK is probably much lower than the headline might suggest.

It’s definitely happened. I think the technical term is “vertebral artery dissection.” I don’t think it’s like a daily occurrence or anything, but there is a very real risk of it happening whenever you get a chiropractic adjustment on your neck. Basically you have some delicate arteries running through your neck bones and the sharp sudden movement of certain chiropractic adjustments have the potential to rupture them. It can cause a stroke and some various other bad things that can happen when blood flow through the spine is interrupted.

I for real thought it was from the dad jokes sub. I was super relieved when I realized it was a link to a news story about an actual bear, and not that the punchline was supposed to be that the bear was black and stole something.
Are you sure touching the armrests was necessary to make it work? In a hospital setting I would think it might have metal armrests just because metal surfaces can be easily disinfected, whereas wood could potentially harbor bacteria and other nasties. Kids aren’t exactly famous for hand washing, hygiene, or keeping their fingers out of their mouths, after all.
Row (pronounced like wow) is another word for argument or disagreement. It’s most commonly used in the UK. A “political row” just means politicians are bickering with each other.
On the one hand, finding out the openly fascist rich kid from apartheid South Africa shaped a company into a place where bigotry and racial discrimination are rampant is one of the least surprising things I’ve ever read.
On the other hand, that is an absolutely shocking level of racism for any kind of modern workplace. Like, fucking wow.
Google seems more and more like an up-jumped shopping mall directory. It’s great if I’m looking for something to buy, but for finding anything not related to commerce I also have better luck with a different search engine.
I also hope this research pans out, but holy crap am I sick of the state of science reporting. For at least the last like 25 years everyone seems to just find a study (any study) with some tenuously promising result under some very specific conditions, and then they write a big ol’ science fiction story about how it’s going to save humanity. Just zero rigor. And about half the time when I’m able to track down the actual study the story is based on, what the study says and what the article says it says aren’t just a little different, often it’s night and day.
At this point I think I’d even treat a headline like, “new research concludes that water can make things wet,” with skepticism.
What was it actually supposed to accomplish? I mean, I’m an American who mostly followed the whole thing via UK chat and panel shows so I’m sure I missed a ton of detail, but I don’t remember there being an over-arching goal, just a lot of little nebulous promises like somehow generating an extra 350 million a week for the NHS, but with no actual plan for how any of that was actually going to happen. It seemed like the whole point was to let xenophobic shit disturbers flick the Vs at Europe, and the vague notion that once Brexit was done it’d finally be open season on “those bloody immigrants.”

I think that pretty much sums up the entire ethos of Silicon Valley these days.
