News@lemmy.world•'The Bear' writer arrested on train after complaint from white woman
19·4 months agoSounds like they created the violation in this case. They threatened arrest for disturbing the peace if he didn’t comply and remove himself from the train. They are always able to manufacturer reason for detainment and threatening arrest.

News@lemmy.world•Office Depot says worker who refused to print Charlie Kirk poster has been fired
36·5 months agoProbably yes.
I used to work for another office store that has since been absorbed into this one. There was an extreme white supremacist who ran a “church” in the area. My first manager told him we would not make his copies but he could use the self-serve machines. A few of my coworkers did not appreciate this stance and may have taunted him a bit.
A new manager came in and asked him why he was using the self-serve and invited him to use our copy services. Most of the department walked out that day.
The materials were what amounted to white supremacy lightly vailed as religion.

News@lemmy.world•Newsom launches statewide task force to clear homeless encampments
28·5 months ago200M spent on alligator Auschwitz and an estimated 450M annual operating cost.
Some googling tells me that an apartment building can cost about 200k/unit (I suspect it could be less). That’s 1000 units. And then imagine what would happen if you put that yearly operating cost into healthcare and other social programs.
They want to build 1000 concentration camps. Florida is working on their second. Texas has one. Other states will certainly follow.
Maybe Newsom should be building homes instead of division.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla FSD turns off more U.S. consumers than it attracts, survey findsEnglish
25·5 months agoLook at the robo taxi situation they have going. The same tech that is stopping people off in the middle of the road is what is being used for FSD.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out that the whole thing is a scam and there is some sweat shop full of teenagers remotely driving cars. I feel like the random stops where they shouldn’t stop is exactly how someone who learns how to drive playing GTA would drive.

10·5 months agoI’m tired of these defective cunts saying that it is ok to treat any person like this. These are people. What if we reversed the situation, do you still think that’s necessary?
I want to make every one who defends this shit live like that for a week.

News@lemmy.world•Louisiana cancels $3 billion coastal restoration project funded by oil spill settlement
4·6 months agoThis is a compounded loss beyond what you described. 3 Billion spent on very localized projects. That’s likely 1 billion in wages paid to workers. That is money that would be spent on other areas of the local economies.
This is actually trickle down economics that works. Spend billions hiring tens of thousands of workers and they will boost the economy they work and live in.

News@lemmy.world•Trump sues Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch over Epstein report
241·6 months agoGame of chicken. If they don’t settle, Trump will pull out before he can be deposed. Of course there is a greater than zero chance that he is so far gone he doesn’t actually remember his little love letter.
gas chambers were just cleansing facilities
And
the crematoria lacked capacity for the dead
These statements seem to be in a logical battle. Camps weren’t meant to kill but they had too many dead.

Technology@lemmy.world•‘The vehicle suddenly accelerated with our baby in it’: the terrifying truth about why Tesla’s cars keep crashingEnglish
66·7 months agoIn some ways that is the answer. Crashes keep happening because they are not being held accountable to regulators because they are not reporting these incidents and no one is exercising oversight to be sure the reporting matches reality.
I think over the years, accurate reporting by manufacturers has been done because they generally do not want to be known as that car company that killed a child and it could have been prevented with a 50 cent bolt. As a result, regulators have been less hawkish. Of course there are probably political donations in the US to help keep the wheels turning.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Robotaxi Freaks Out and Drives into Oncoming Traffic on First DayEnglish
12·7 months agoI’ve come to the realization, at least where I live, that a hell of a lot of accidents are prevented because of drivers who are actually aware and safe. This goes a bit beyond defensive driving IMO. I’m talking flat out accident avoidable. There is an entire class of drivers who are not even aware of the accidents they have almost caused because someone else managed to avoid their stupid driving.
The majority of accidents that are likely to happen with these robocoffins will be single car or robocoffin meets robocoffin. The numbers on safety after a year will be acceptable because non accident causing error prone driving is not reported in any official capacity.
I still maintain that the only safe way to have autonomous vehicles on the road is if they do not share the road with human drivers and have an open standard for communicating with other autonomous cars.

My university had an entire /8 block and no real centralized IT. A number of departments ran NAT internally but the default was that every computer was assigned a public IP. This included connecting a laptop to the network in the library or in a dorm room. At some point they did require associating your MAC with a student or staff ID in order to acquire an IP.
There was also a pretty robust collection of drives shared on the network. Some were intentional and slightly nefarious, some were accidental and the people didn’t even realize they were sharing.
This was over 25 years ago.
