What I would like: this is a webpage about cars, maybe the ads should be relevant to the content, instead of images of disgusting toenails that say “your doctor will eat your baby if you don’t read this”
Well there goes my afternoon

That would show down venture capital backed companies demanding a public offering and short term profit motives over sustainable businesses.
Or opening up platforms to drive increased competition?
Or providing sponsorship for open standards so users get more choice in the market instead of relying on entrenched large companies?
EmergMemeHologram@startrek.websiteto Programming@programming.dev•Everything about TOML format - Orchard Dweller1·2 years agoOn the other hand, I hate that with JSON you can only store one document per file.
Some programs allow you to omit the outside braces, others require it.
But I do hate toml, and I don’t much like yaml either (why are there like 8 whitespace permutations?!)
EmergMemeHologram@startrek.websiteto Woodworking@lemmy.ca•Making strong "Z legs" for a table1·2 years agoI’m not sure about the dowels
The bridle joint will want to pivot and the desk acts as a big lever exerting a lot of force onto that joint with a large force multiplier.
It might be worth upgrading the dowels to steel bolts, but I don’t know a lot about the strength of wood under these forces.
If the dowel is 1” In and the Z is 48” long (no idea if that’s close), it exerts 48x the desk weight on to the dowels. You look at oak, a desk top of 50lb, a 1” dowel would be at over twice its breaking point. Two dowels and glue in the joint would will help, but steel bolts will have a much higher rating against shear here.
All of this is napkin math, and I’m not an expert at all here.

Send like bad news for investors long on growth and prospects of the meta verse.

It’s not just girls in things standing in a hot tub flossing.
I don’t like the company, I don’t use the product. But it is what Facebook was in 2010.

I’d say 1/3 orders are damaged. My last one was both misprinted and the envelope was unsealed, so the book arrived bent, wet, and blurry.

The junky shopping experience is especially clear once you leave and come back.
I only ever order books from amazon anymore, and usually only when I get a gift card or a product isn’t for sale elsewhere.
The prices aren’t even that good anymore.
EmergMemeHologram@startrek.websiteto World News@lemmy.ml•No U.S. threat to Iran will go unanswered, Tehran says19·2 years agoYou’re forgetting over 20 years of rockets fired indiscriminately into Israel and the decades of border invasions and wars before that.
The history of that region is incredibly hostile and shitty going back before the British drew up the current border divisions. There’s no way you can look at one group and go “yeah these guys are unambiguously good”.
I feel for the Palestinian people, the current situation is beyond horrible or acceptable, but at the same time Hamas are fucking awful and you don’t kill and kidnap thousands of people and not have a fucking plan or idea that there will be retaliation to the fullest degree possible, especially with an aggressive country like Israel. It looks like their entire plan was to create a war and hope the world turns on Israel and bigger powers get pulled in.
Hamas also is a huge source of what’s happening now, they tried to use the rules of war to shield themselves, but like the boy who cried wolf, once you break the system people stop obeying the usual rules.
So here’s my opinion the topic. Hamas are scum and I don’t blame Israel for trying to eliminate them. I don’t agree with Israel’s tactics the last 20 years, and I don’t agree with Gaza’s either. I see no evidence that a non partitioned state would ever work, and as long as it’s a gray area countries that hate Israel will keep funnelling weapons to Hamas or whoever runs Gaza. Unless you can right 1000s of years of wrongs going back to the kingdom of Israel, I think the best you could ever hope for is a bitter quiet.

I like to thread the needle between “useful verification of identity” and “not a horrifying invasion of privacy that puts everyone in our society at risk”
Reading these kinds of things will just result in is creating horrible identification laws like having to scan your face each time you want to watch porn.
