Just turned 30 on Saturday. I haven’t written my book, played my guitar or finished the dozens of projects I have lying around like I planned to do for the last 10 years.

76·3 months agoI’ve come to realize that these crazed anti-ai people are just a product of history repeating itself. They would be the same leftists who were “anti-gmo”. When you dig into it you understand that they’re against Monsanto, which is cool and good, but the whole thing is so conflated in their heads that you can’t discuss the merits of GMOs whatsoever even though they’re purportedly progressive.
It’s a pattern, their heads in the right place for the most part. But the logic is just going a little haywire as they buy into hysteria. It’ll take a few years probably as the generations cycle.
I have things I can/need to do every single day of the week. I have to decide if what you’re inviting me to is more important than the chores, shopping, exercise, and hobbies I’m planning on.
They don’t even know what they’re doing or why they’re doing it.
We know, right now, without AI, that we have enough resources in the world to feed, house, and educate everyone. The only reason that doesn’t get done is an inscrutible system of beurocracy and propaganda.
So what happens when something they would laud as an “AGI” says “hey, to solve your economic issues you have to recognize that we have the ability to create so much food it’s no longer profitable”?
Well the truth is that they would most likely hide it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Inside the Underground Trade of ‘Flipper Zero’ Tech to Break into CarsEnglish
40·4 months agoThis article convinced me to buy a flipper (I’ve been debating it for years). It’s a super useful item that is absolutely going to get banned/hamstrung any day now for putting too much power into people’s hands under the guise of “public safety”.
I want it because it’s so easy to use. I’m no hacker, but with a tool as convenient as this I’m sure I can piece some useful hacks together.

13·4 months agoI think the key to good LLM usage is a light touch. Let the LLM know what you want, maybe refine it if you see where the result went wrong. But if you find yourself deep in conversation trying to explain to the LLM why it’s not getting your idea, you’re going to wind up with a bad product. Just abandon it and try to do the thing yourself or get someone who knows what you want.
They get confused easily, and despite what is being pitched, they don’t really learn very well. So if they get something wrong the first time they aren’t going to figure it out after another hour or two.
So… You got some more mtg alpha cards kickin around…?

51·6 months agoWhat’s sad is that this is a consequence not just of this admins shittiness but of a long enshittification of our government.
Not only do government jobs pay a mediocre salary until you get really really far in the org, a fact that only gets worse as the idea of a middle class lifestyle gets gutted, but for decades now, working a government job has become less and less prestigious. It used to be that there were always plenty of loonies who found pride in being a “public servant” and thought the best place to use their genius was in government.
Now, as we see, there’s no one in these positions with even cursory knowledge of how these programs work.
And there’s definitely no millennials or zoomers fresh out of tech school that would debase themselves to working in government who would be able see these flaws in two seconds.

Does it stay up? Yes.
Can you sleep in it? Technically
Does it have running electricity and water? (Optional anyway)
Another big win for vibe coders. Pack it up, we’re taking the W home.
