I have a buddy working security in IBM. He says the same thing. It’s not about security but rather how much money is gained/lost from being secure enough. Even when shit hits the fan, the fees imposed on them are less than the cost to pay employees to implement a solution to stop it from ever happening. So they don’t get tasked to prevent it. Just deal with it when it happens.

Unless you’re Canadian, then you can just raw dawg pirate whatever with no repercussion. IP cannot be associated to an identity here. At worst you get cease and desists notices emailed to you by your ISP but you can ignore them, ISPs are obligated to forward these. Especially notices from companies outside of Canada.

It all depends on where you live, in Poland they don’t care unless you’re pirating polish productions. Then the fist of God crushes you. Allegedly

Those fucking dickheads also locked out my CC while I was on vacation in a region I notified them of through their special “going on vacation? Let us know.” feature.

They slowly 2 weeks after I returned let me know that it was flagged for a sketchy purchase being made inside that region. The sketchy purchase? A water bottle from the polish 7-11 corp “Zabka”.

They offered me $20 in points for locking out my main spending source. I offered them a go fuck yourself, a cancellation, and picked up an Amex Cobalt and a Simplii Visa.

Learned a good lesson about traveling with just one CC though.

Could always go the route of an amber alert-like system being primary and then pipe the same msg to their secondary commercial platforms (like X). I’m not privy on the details but it sounds irresponsible to rely on X primarily/solely.
