So Usenet was the first fedi site? Reassuring that the concept predates the current paradigm and still has legs, however niche it is atm.
I’ll write something here later probably. In the meantime, hi to whoever’s reading this I hope you get a chance to enjoy something kind today :)

Autism@lemmy.world•I'm not Autistic (I have adhd but no autism diagnosis) but - I saw a meme the other day positing that autistic people are more resistant to adsEnglish
8·1 month agoThat makes way more sense.
Advertising bird seed and dog leashes to someone who keeps a python as a pet isn’t going to get them to buy anything. Make an ad about an auto-adjusting heat lamp and high quality frozen mice and they’ll probably perk up. Toss in an offer of a free snake plushie and a 10% first time discount for good measure.
Nobody is immune to propaganda, but yeah it’s easier to ignore and not relate to something when it’s not targeted at you.
My apologies- to clarify my sympathy was about being treated as needing medication for your ability to see the world differently.
Thank you for the info dump actually! I’m also autistic and getting to learn about how you experience, process and approach things has been enlightening and fascinating (in a respectful, peer-to-peer way of course).
There is certainly something to be said for both finding you’re not alone in a unique situation, and learning to embrace the way you are to navigate a better life. It’s awesome that you did all that for your kids too; they’re very lucky.
Considering emotions very much have a physical bodily/chemical manifestation it makes perfect sense that a synesthete could experience that. I’m sorry you had to go through all that.
The real trick is to make a list of things to do to avoid doing the things on your to do list /s
Holy hell your coach is an asshat I’m so sorry. It takes a lot to keep your cool on top of accomplishing all you did, especially when you weren’t feeling good!
Since he won’t say it, you did great and should be proud of yourself. Might not mean as much coming from an internet stranger but you’ve got this.
Hope you can get some better rest and enjoy the remainder of your trip best you can. Sending calm and positive vibes your way 🌸

News@lemmy.world•Judge Finds ‘Likelihood’ That Charges Against Abrego Garcia Are VindictiveEnglish
24·1 month agoThis seems to be a pattern. District judges make common sense rulings then the administration takes a tantrum all the way up to the nine who let them get away with actual murder.

Autism@lemmy.world•Nervous about Pressure and Pampering?English
3·2 months agoI do also feel kind of weird about being pampered, but admittedly it doesn’t stress me out to the same level you have to deal with.
For me it’s less about the people themselves and their intent and more about being reminded that I’m helpless for a little while. My family also tends to respect when I can get things myself, though.
I do break to pressure when I’m not feeling well too. Having to be in any sort of high sensory/social situation when I’m sick or recovering from something leaves me in tears the second I’m out of public view. Sometimes even the thought of an obligation makes me break down.
Fortunately my loved ones tend to be understanding even if they don’t always remember my exact temperaments on these things and I try to keep that in mind when I’m frustrated.
I think most of it comes down to feeling like I’m not in control of the few things I usually get to be when I’m vulnerable and it builds up.
TL;DR: You’re not alone on this one. Well meaning but obtuse family happens lol, maybe making your position extra clear about it beforehand could help if you haven’t already.

Autism@lemmy.world•It's Thursday 09/25/2025. Hey, What's Going On!English
3·2 months agoHow nice of Dash to share their tummy 🖤
I’ve gotten about all of 20-30 mins sleep but that’s okay. I’ve been playing Slime Rancher 2 on and off since it (finally!) came out of early access and officially launched on the 23rd. Has this week’s sense of time felt weird to anyone else?
Hope your tummy feels better soon.
How dare they cast the role of Caribbean princess as a young black girl? /s
(I know the stories are Danish or something but Disney put these films in tropical island settings)

News@lemmy.world•No conclusive evidence linking acetaminophen to autism, says Health Canada in rebuke to TrumpEnglish
12·2 months agoYou mean autistic people…are human? 🤯
Imagine thinking neurotypes are binary and not a gradient of human experiences. Imagine also thinking one swath of neurotypes is a disease and not also simply part of said human experience.
These are also the same jackasses who think only one sleep pattern is “correct” despite…well, history, but that’s a separate rant.
HP laptops are like that, unfortunately.

Broadfern@lemmy.worldtoLemmy.ca's Main Community@lemmy.ca•Should Lemmy.ca defederate from Maga Place?English
11·2 months agoMAGA and “just conservative” are not the same.
Self-labeling as MAGA is denoting full cult of personality and fealty to Trump. Add the online-ness element, plus the small size of Lemmy in general, and you’re concentrating that presence into a toxic sludge that seeps into the rest of the fediverse a la 4chan/Xhitter trolls.
“MAGA” is not going to change their minds on anything, nor are they looking to meaningfully change ours. MAGA does not argue in good faith, or based on rationality or policy. Red-hatters enter non-red-hat spaces for the purposes of intimidation, feeling superior, and sowing discord. Then they pat each other on the back for “owning the libs” and continue the cycle.
It’s perfectly reasonable to not want to federate with relentless trolling and become a Nazi bar by means of association.
Maybe? The port setups work fine on the home router (such as accessing Steam link/Sunshine from a TV) but because it’s behind the mandatory AT&T modem it causes some nasty configuration headaches for external access.
This may sound crazy but do you have an AT&T router?
I have not been able to solve it myself yet unfortunately but having two routers has made it impossible for me to use Tailscale/Wireguard/ZeroTier etc. in much the same way as you’re describing.
The devices “see” each other but can’t connect no matter what configuration I follow, what firewall settings I tweak, nothing. I think there’s a pass through problem where UPnP is in conflict.
Sorry I don’t have an answer but I promise you’re not alone in your frustration.

Technology@lemmy.world•Get ready to see ads on your… Samsung refrigeratorEnglish
29·2 months agoTheir TVs suck too. The remotes barely respond and they’re bogged down with ad-riddled garbage to the point I had to set up a parental lock just so I wasn’t force-fed trashy, outdated reality TV at 300 decibels when I power the damn thing on. Or worse, when the power goes out and it decides to blast at 3 AM. Unfortunately I didn’t make the choice to buy this thing.
Their phones are also locked down proprietary horse arse. I don’t understand the people who repeatedly pick the brand, but oh well.
Don’t send me down that rabbit hole please

Autism@lemmy.world•Does anyone else use social stories for everything?English
25·2 months agoThose are also referred to as “scripts” and are pretty common as a life skill/coping mechanism in the ND community. It’s not “childish” to have a structure to help you through otherwise confusing life tasks.
It just means you’re more consciously aware of the processes that NTs also have, but they seem to barely think of them like it’s automatic.

That’s fair. I forgot briefly that fediverse has that political side lol but meant more the technology of “broadcasting” and inter-site communications. Seems a better comparison than email at least.
