Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does Mastodon bring anything of value to a Lemmy user?English
8·4 days agoI personally don’t like microblogging platforms in general. It’s cool that there’s an alternative to twitter and the like, but I just have no pull towards platforms that emulate that kind of environment.
I think it’s great that it’s so popular and has introduced a lot of people to the fediverse and spread awareness of ethical alternatives to corporate slop, but is not for me.
Tbh it’s an unfortunate risk that comes with relationships, period. Doesn’t matter how many relationships one has, be it simultaneously or not. Practicing safe sex, testing and communicating well is the only thing that separates someone with STDs, and someone without STDs. I’d go so far as to say people who have open relationships probably tend to practice safety more often than those who don’t

2·10 days agoA Russian Sausage is a South African imitation of the Polish Kielbasa that was adapted by early European immigrants in South Africa. So a Russian Roll is pretty much a Hot Dog Roll but with a Russian Sausage instead

Social media sites should do this. There’s never a good reason to be on [Insert Corporate Slop Social Media Website here] at 3AM.

I appreciate that! I’m not sure which communities I could cross-post cel-damage content to, but I like that that’s a native feature.
I used to watch it every Sunday morning before church when I was a wee lad. The whole show is available on YT btw
I appreciate the heads-up, and honestly the original reddit community was pretty much completely dead as well, so I’m not really expecting much to come of it. I’m mainly creating this and some other communities here because there are subreddits dedicated to them, but since I don’t want to use reddit I’m creating them here instead. Whether they’re much busier if at all is not an expectation for me, i’d just like to centralize my communities here moving forward -
Yes, it’s the PS2/GC game from the early 2000’s. As far as I am aware the scene is pretty much completely dead. The latest re-release was on the Nintendo Switch on the 28th of March 2019, and someone submitted a new WR 5 months ago on the Xbox Series S. So there’s still a pulse, but not much of one lol. This game just has a special place in my heart and I wanted to see if anyone else here actually remembers it or still holds the same reverence for it as I do

92·26 days agoWhen I’m scrolling any feed, whenever I see a post I don’t want to see, I block that community or add a keyword to my filters.
So far I’ve blocked over a hundred communities and it’s killed most of the adrenal rage-bait political posts that don’t do anything other than rile me up. It’s one thing to be aware of shitty things happening but it’s another thing to doomscroll just for the adrenaline hit, and as a person with general anxiety I want to feel better after scrolling rather than worse
