Torvalds is destroying linux. 😐
If there’s one person in the world I trust to call out AI for being stupid, it’s Linus Torvalds. I think he can handle it.
Destroying Linux how exactly?
Don’t you know that LLM is pure evil and everyone who uses it becomes an idiot? At least that is what those anti-LLM fanatics preaching.
Says the pro-AI fanatic…
Yes of cource. Even if a troll you got it completely right dude.
There was a time when no improvements to the kernel required AI.
May I suggest you ignore the troll and answer the person who asked the question. I’d like to know as well, I’m fairly clueless about this stuff and trying to get a better understanding, other than “slop” level answers.
The question was what exactly is Linus doing to destroy Linux? I’ve heard the usual arguments against LLMs and I don’t disagree with those, but I’m looking to find out what Linus is doing that is ruining everything?
You’re not qualified for that statement
Of all things to be tainted by AI, Linux was the one I wanted it to happen to least. He should have just handed it over if he cannot be bothered any more.
Great. I guess I’ll stay on pre-ai version for as long as possible…
meh, it’s his toy/joke project, he can break it if he likes. If you don’t like it, then Fork it.
Torvalds has one of the best takes on AI so far. It’s a useful tool for experienced programmers, that takes care of a lot of the tedious tasks that humans are just not geared for.
Lets imagine for a second, what programming will be like in 2030. Tell me, do you think there will be less AI assisted code, or more, than there is now?
And let me ask this: will traditional programming be useless in 2030?
If the answers are, more and yes, then I understand why one can claim that Torvalds is destroying linux. Otherwise, it’s foolish.

IMHO it vastly depends on the evolution of AI. If they will gain the ability to understand the context they are in then probably there will be more, else it would still be usefull only to automate simple and repetitive things.
