AI-powered searches consume roughly ten times more energy than standard Google searches.
When you’re Googling something add “-ai” (without the quotes to the end of your search string. It will skip processing the search with and AI and answer and presumably drop your Google search CO2 footprint by 90%.
Or you can reduce it by 100% by not using google at all.
Your search with any search engine will produce CO2.
So does breathing. Doesn’t mean I have to breath in Google’s nasty AI fumes.

Who exactly is it very good for?
Envinronment.
Google is now able to generate 43% more value to the society (revenue) per unit of pollution. Their profits rose by 93% (market cap by 66%) adjusted to pollution.
Value to society. Yeah no.
What better way than price of services sold do you have to measure generated value?
Pretty much any other metric besides money is going to be a better measurement.
What exactly?
Fake money, fake tech, fake people, fake value, real consequences.
You can’t just call things fake.
Money is the best thing to measure value.
Notice how I’m not even including emissions reduced by Google claiming parts of the market (so, for example, if Bing had 20% of search engine market share and generated 2X pollution, while Google had 80% and generated 8X pollution, Google taking over the whole market wouldn’t change total pollution output, because total pollution stays at 10X).
