If I had the time, I would love to one day fork the MATE Desktop to do something like this, and call it “GNOME: friendly edition :)”

That’s why it’s better to just say anti-fascist. Anti-fascist is nowadays the clearest term for it. “Antifa” is constantly being used as a word for “your enemy”, so using the same word but with another meaning can become confusing to people who don’t know the antifa movement that well (which, let’s be honest, it’s most people).

Lose, with only one ‘o’:
Verb. To stop having something you had before, with a negative connotation. To not have success at game or competition.
Dictionary entry: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/lose
Loose, with two 'o’s:
Adjective. It can mean the oposite of either “tight”, “attached” or “controlled”. It can also be a verb, and in that case it means something similar to “let loose”.

Thank you for breaching containment

Woah, that’s crazy!

They can do that when instructed to do it.
What about Gemini? No. My birth chart says that would be a disaster.
istack! youstack! hestacks! shestacks!

One of the article’s sources has a link to this Reddit thread (view it on RedLib), which has someone recording the ad. The article also uses official BMW websites as sources.
P.S. that was a very boring ad

Stopping the development of larger and larger models because of the unmanageable environmental cost it brings: ❌
Slowing down AI development because of fear of AGI: ✔️

Lemmygrad and Hexbear (I think) are instances filled with “tankies”, which means that they can’t shut up about how awesome authoritarian regimes that present themselves as communist, like China, and some others, like Russia, are, despite all the crimes against human rights those countries’ governments keep committing (according to tankies, the governments they support don’t actually commit any atrocities, it’s just “lies spread via anti-communist propaganda”, which they also use as a excuse for silencing anyone presenting criticism about their favourite regimes). Please keep in mind that lots of communists don’t see countries like China as communist, despite the countries calling themselves that.
As these instances have lots of tankies, they tend to have toxic communities. Their users also tend to hate trans people for some reason, and sometines try to harass people because of it, which is a big no-no to instances that want their trans users to feel safe, such as Blåhaj Zone.

EDIT: Oops! I accidentally wrote a wall of text!
I knew about AI models generating posts, but I never really thought about how problematic it could get. I don’t know much about Reddit’s rules, mostly because I left the platform before people started complaining of getting banned left and center, but I did hear a lots of people complaining about it here on Lemmy.
I’m sorry if I jumped the gun and started making assumptions about you right away. I have friends that still use X, despite knowing how bad that platform is, and how unhealthy scrolling through a feed on that platform can get, and even despite knowing there are alternatives (one of them tried Bluesky once, but quit it because “it just wasn’t the same thing”). I just assumed you were in a not-so-different situation before getting banned, even though I don’t know anything about you.
It also doesn’t help that I just assumed that everyone had heard about the existence of Reddit alternatives when the Reddit API protests happened. I completely forgot that lots of people came to Reddit after that, or weren’t even using the platform during the protest despite having an account. I forgot that there are probably some people that didn’t notice the protests because of their favourite subreddits being unaffected by it, and that it’s also very likely that there were a ton of people that were affected by it, but knew nothing about why it was happening. And there could be even others that knew about why it was happening, but didn’t know that people were starting to look for alternatives. I just assumed that people who stayed behind on Reddit after the protests chose to stay behind after hearing about platforms like Lemmy because changing platforms was too much work.
Thanks for opening my eyes :)
Despite it all, I don’t see Lemmy as being a platform with a community that is super accessible for every single human in the planet, so I don’t think it’s exclusively an advertisement issue. Not that that’s a problem that needs to be fixed, I just think that you’d have to partly remove the platform’s “soul” if you wanted to make it more accessible for it to grow. As far as I know, Lemmy wasn’t made to “kill” Reddit. It was made to be a place where people can hang out with other people who care about the same topics :)

Would you search up “reddit like alternatives” if you hadn’t been banned? And if someone came on Reddit a few days before you got banned and said to you “hey, this is the Fediverse, come join us”, would you join, or would you say “I have no reason to leave Reddit or to use any other Reddit-like platform”?
I also don’t it’s a “disenchantment” problem. I believe it’s more of a “refusing to change because it takes effort” problem

Wait, what are you talking about? I need a source

How? Are you suggesting that people will now show criminal evidence online just to prove that they got a cease and desist? That would be beyond stupid, and I don’t think there’s anything in the article that suggests it. There are other ways to prove it, such as asking Flock’s legal team (if they say they did, it’s because they did), or verifying if the letter has a consistent format and return address with other cease and desist letters that the legal team sent.

If I were you, I’d tape the glasses in the places where the cameras and microphones would be if they were Meta glasses. That way, people who look at the glasses would think that even if you actually had cameras and microphones in your glasses, you taped them. I’m not sure if this would work, but I think it’s worth a try…
[…] But before we dive into this thought experiment, however, it’s worth establishing what we’re actually talking about, as readers in most of Europe and North America underestimate WhatsApp by an order of magnitude, primarily because in those markets it functions as one platforms among many. That is, however, not how the rest of the planet works. […]
Great read.
This isn’t a bad policy, but outright ignoring ethical and environmental concerns doesn’t seem very wise either. That should still be discussed, even if this becomes the final version of the policy.
