Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Raytheon has an ethics departmentEnglish
121·14 days agoNot even that, I googled it it’s the “Ethics and Compliance” department. It’s just a legal fig leaf. There isn’t even the pretense. Or it’s just a honeypot to fire everyone who has moral qualms.
Ooh get an analog watch! That helped me, it’s a really good visual aid to see how much time you have left or has passed as well!
I’m doing it right now!

Canada@lemmy.ca•What if we do a "voters' strike" of sorts to force electoral reform?
1·20 days agoWhat do you do if “against” is not on the ballot? In my country for instance there is no party that opposes the palestinian genocide except a few very fringe ones. So should I swallow my conscience and just vote?
Or should I demonstrate, vote for one of the fringe parties, make the people that are supposed to represent me know what my values are? Because I’d die of shame if people could actually claim that our zionist government represented me.
Turning in a blank ballot is also a valid form of protest, but protesters have to make sure that their demands are known. Otherwise a protest is pointless.
The people who won’t stay home on election day are conservative voters, and even though electoral reform shouldn’t be a partisan issue I guarantee the Conservatives would never move to implement it.
There are a lot of conservatives that stay home because they are disappointed or don’t see a point to it. Doomerism is kind of a conservative thing.

1·23 days agoWhy?? Seems like using the only power you have over the politicians (to vote or not vote for them) is about the best thing you can do to get what you want within the confines of the system.

31·23 days agoIt would need a lot of organizing and campaigning. The main action wouldn’t be withholding the vote but the organizing behind a cohesive message. You (as a collective) would have to agree on what exactly are your demands and be loud about it.
I agree that lesser evilism will only ever lead to more and more evil candidates as long as the other candidate is more evil, but reversing that course is going to be tough.
a must read! Very good article

They use the ethics hotline to dismantle worker solidarity? Yeah actually that tracks
