Yet somehow, triggers get accidentally pulled sometimes 🤷🏻‍♂️. There’s a term for this: Negligent discharge (not to be confused with accidental discharge).

Also get out of there with that trigger nonsense. It takes a conscious amount of force to pull back a trigger.

“A trigger”? You mean in general? Like as a universal rule that applies to all triggers? That’s not how it works. There’s a very wide range of trigger pull weights, travel lengths, etc.

IIRC, most Glocks have a trigger pull weight of around 5.5 lbs (depending on model). It’s not nothing, but it’s definitely not a lot. Negligent discharges can and do happen.

He was drinking, and it’s a Glock.

Glocks have a “passive” safety. There’s no manual safety, just this little extra thing in the trigger, which does not require an extra step to fire.

Negligent discharge is much easier with guns like these, in my opinion (because apparently there’s significant debate on this, somehow).

A drunk guy accidentally pointing a gun is plausible (I’ve had it happen to me before, probably more than once). Add the negligence of a drunken idiot and possible shitty trigger discipline, and I could easily imagine a negligent discharge here.

There’s also the possibility that it wasn’t even his finger that pulled the trigger. He could have snagged the trigger on something, being a fumbling idiot. Some people have accidentally shot themselves when trying to holster guns like these. This condition is commonly known as “Glock leg”.

Still, regardless of intent, the gun was pointed at his daughter, the trigger was pulled, and she’s dead — a sum of his own decisions, accident or not. It is WILD that he gets to walk free.

I bought two Grip6 belts like a decade ago, and they still show very little wear.

It’s a very simple design: a durable strap (no holes), and a buckle that’s just a solid chunk of metal (no moving parts).

I would highly recommend them at the prices I paid back then… But holy shit their prices have increased a lot. Still might be worth it as a BIFL, but still hard to justify for such simple parts.

There was a surprising number of repos there when I last looked, and their blog seems to show signs of life, so I don’t think it’s vaporware (at least not yet). But yeah, not easily being able to browse repos from the home page definitely sucks.

FWIW, you can see some recent activity scroll by from right to left on the front page, near the top, right below the hero section. You can click them to view some users and repos (example: https://tangled.org/mitchellh.com).

That’s the only way I see from the front page though, which is not great :/

I didn’t have a rich family. My parents were poor for my entire childhood, and remained poor until their deaths. All other relatives are poor too (very small family). I’m not rich by any means; just financially comfortable.

Most success stories I’ve heard from people who brought themselves out of poverty, had no political “odor” to them at all. Having enough spare time to think about politics seems like a bit of a luxury when you’re too busy trying to survive while also working towards carefully planned goals. In fact, if such a success story smells political even a little bit, and it’s on the Internet, then yeah, it’s probably not to be trusted.

As a guy who clawed my way out of poverty, I can warn you: People who state those opinions on the Internet almost never want to hear about a success story — even if it could help others. (Not that downvotes even matter though)

Yeah Steam has some DRM-free games too. It’s interesting how this is an option for other media, but not movies (AFAIK)

For some reason, I find this satisfying and funny. The landscape has been changing. The open-weight models from Chinese labs are getting really good and becoming a serious threat to the closed models from American AI companies.

Interestingly, Google, Meta, and Microsoft — who all have revenue streams outside of AI — recognize the threat are getting more supportive about open-weight models. Anthropic and OpenAI support keeping models closed for “safety” reasons.
