Centurylink added a fun one for me, a building relocation fee, I shit you not.
They mailed me paperwork stating how they need to charge an extra fee for when roads expand or move, and they have to relocate a building. So instead of just setting aside some of their profit for the few times they’ll need to move a fucking building, now I get to specifically pay for this occurrence.
Agreeing with you here, they probably had the last line there to save themselves money, as historically tech items lose value over time, so if you bought an ssd for $200, and 6 months later needed to be replaced or refunded, historically they can realistically offer you $150, as that would traditionally be the new market value after 6 months, but in today’s timeline, now its apparently worth $900 and they probably don’t want to pay that.

I usually check ebay when i need electronics batteries, but you have a chance of a seller selling knock off batteries that as you said, could be sketchy. I’ve personally never had an issue, but YMMV.
The as-seen-on-tv products sometimes have good ideas but the execution is awful. Cheap materials or bad engineering/quality control, etc…
…I know how its supposed to work, I’m just saying instead of giving us healthcare and social nets we get to save money under our own responsibility, and then watch it get spent away in elder years. If you haven’t watched family members spend hundred of thousands on cancer care, or emergency room visits, etc, even though they ‘did the right thing’ and saved, you eventually will.

And scheme, it is. They offloaded the responsibility of retirement planning from the employer and financial planners, to the individual. After Eron, obviously the existing system had problems, but now all the responsibility and financial risk has been punted to the individual, so society can say “well, its your own fault!” When you don’t have enough money in retirement years, as the lack of social nets and healthcare costs eat through what little you had saved. There’s no one to sue or blame but yourself at the end. Fun.

Nice job! I had a fun one 2 winters ago, the glue on the pressure sensor switch just failed, I’ve never heard of this happening before. (Admittedly I’m not reading stuff about gas furnaces daily, but still…) The black piece and the white piece separated in the pic.
So the gas turns on, and the fan starts speeding up and there’s a pressure switch I guess to make sure there’s gas flowing, and the fan is blowing before igniting and starting the whole reaction, and since the switch wasn’t working, it wouldn’t ignite.
I tried to re glue the 2 plastic halves back together but the glue wasn’t holding, so I just zip tied the hell out of the thing, and its been working great for 2 years so far…
Is the steam machine a normal ATX design? I have their original Steam Machine made by Dell, the Alienware Alpha, and it was a custom laptop motherboard with laptop sized SODIMM slots.
I also wasn’t suggesting using his old laptop ram for the new machines because its a different DDR version, either 3 or 4, i don’t know how old it is. But I have an extra ddr5 laptop I could give him ram from, if he got a bare bones steam machine.

They probably should do this, just to get the thing sold. Normal users may not have any ddr5 ram laying around or machines they can strip it from, but there’s a subset of geeky users who do. My friend is looking for an upgrade from his aging gaming laptop, and I’m trying to help him plan out what the buy next, it would be great if I could just recommend the steam machine, as I have extra ddr5 ram to give him, but I have no idea when it’ll actually ship and how much it’ll actually cost in the end.
I’m not defending how this was written, but they were clearly reinforcing how the person was unidentifiable from the students point of view.

Chiming in to say: I’ve had issues in the past where the WiFi router was factory resetting itself and it turned out this can happen if the power supply isn’t powerful enough for the device. In this case, I think I had gotten the WiFi router 2nd hand from Goodwill or something, and the provided power supply fit in the port, and it had the same voltage, but was an amp underpowered, instead of being something like 12volts 3.5amps, the plug was supplying 12volts 2.5amps, and I guess everything was fine until the unit needed more power (likely from routing high amounts of traffic, or more WiFi units connected)
I had no idea factory resetting could be the result of something like this so I was at a loss for a while until I found the info online.
So: check to make sure that
The power supply matches what the unit is requiring, and if it is,
If you have another power plug that matches the barrel jack size, volts and amps, try using that one in case the power supply itself is going bad.

There’s this weird phenomenon that people tend to think those in the past were less intelligent than now, when really it was history being spun a certain way. For example: the witch burning thing, most people accusing witches, etc didn’t actually believe that shit. Keep in mind all the advancements and progress humans have made in mathemathics and sciences over the last few thousand years. Those people weren’t stupid, if they were doing stupid things, its probably because they were evil (like burning witches for their own financial gain)
