So gross. Obfuscation of currency so you have no clue how much you’re actually spending. aka gambling imo.
lol this is how I explained it to my wife. Like how arcades all have these money cards now.

4·17 days agoThank you! Completely forgot about that. :D
Excellent question. I have absolutely NO idea. Friend helped me set one up on my PC and it even churns through “tokens” on my GPU. So I have zero clue. :D I guess I could ask “AI”. lol
Literally was in a presentation at work the other day where they said someone used 2 million tokens and the next person used 1 million and they were so excited by it.
I didn’t get it. I asked went 2 million was better than 1 million. The VP basically said it’s not, just costs us more money.
So why the hell is the presentation acting like it’s a fucking victory?

They’d rather pay people to say they’re good, than actively pay to fix something… FFS.

16·1 month agoExcept bluesky is funded by VC and they created their own protocol and federation design.
Codeberg is an open source repo only place, they’re building in AP, they have monthly updates. So nothing like Bluesky.
But I understand the trepidation.

46·1 month agoCodeberg is supporting forgejo which Codeberg is built on. Forgejo is ActivityPub powered git repositories. So imagine regular git, but everyone can have their own repos on their own sites and you can still interact with each other. So yes, Codeberg is centealized FOR NOW. But they’re working on opening it up to EVERYONE to run their own and be able to access all the repos you use over the Fediverse.
Incredibly profound. Thank you for sharing. :-)
OH! This is brilliant stuff! Thank you!
I run BT Free public charity https://btfree.org/ . I had been thinking about doing like a community vote and donate and like the top 3 split the prize pool or something. So allow people to vote on Lemmy or Piefed or Mastodon or whatever with like $1 donation. Yes, maybe Mastodon has the most users (idk) but can they get them out to vote? And no matter what, it’s supporting YOUR communities directly and spreading the word about these other platforms.
I agree with statement about statistics. But I disagree that if I’m fixing an old linux computer, and someone posts a meme, it’s not what I wanted. What I personally want on the Fediverse, is human connection and interaction. So I think that’s a wholly valid post. I’d like the answer, but I’m here to build bonds. I’ve met so many people I’ve talked with on the Fediverse, because I don’t just want the answer. I want REAL conversation.
I agree if you’re looking at health of a SERVER, MAU counts. But let’s just take Lemmy. If we just look at lemmy.ml MAU doesn’t begin to tell the whole picture of “LEMMY” and not “lemmy”.
I was just talking with someone that compared it to pamphlet bombings. You have NO CLUE how many see it. It’s more about how many SHOW UP. And I’d argue that “showing up” would look completely different even on Lemmy vs Mastodon vs Pixelfed vs anything else. So it seems like an INSANELY complex idea.
I want folks to feel GOOD about the future of the Fediverse. And these posts about “MAU” distract from the real point. I can’t do anything about someone posting, I greatly appreciate the work, but I’d like to have a discussion about how we turn this value that has ZERO real world use on the Fediverse, and help pivot to how we can actually help grow our own communities in our own ways. :D
So I guess maybe the real problem is I just don’t want to admit that MAU fluctuating might truly indicate the “health”. But I love it no matter what. :)
Sorry, I’m an idealist and a romantic for the Fediverse. :D
AWESOME! Please don’t hesitate to ping me! I’d love to share it when you’re ready. <3 :)
" the amount of time" so is this by the minute? That’s really gross imo and makes me want to stay off there even more. Thank you Fedica! :D

3·1 month agoThis is going to federate via ActivityPub. My understanding if you’ll have a centralized repo under someone or some business. But you could have your own account and fork their repo to your federated server. You can work there, push changes and it goes up.
Being AP you can follow changes, get alerts on releases, etc.
"What about forge federation?
Federation is under active development, and is considered experimental. This is because many required features−notably moderation and access control−have not yet been developed.
The Forgejo project reserves the right to make breaking changes to its federation components with no prior warning. Such changes may be “backwards incompatible” and could result in the (sub-)domain used for your Forgejo instance to be “burned”. This means that the domain will no longer be usable for ActivityPub-based federation in the future, no matter whether you set up Forgejo from scratch or choose to use other software that uses ActivityPub.
For more information on implemented features and future federation-related plans, check out the federation roadmap.
If you are interested in working on federation-related code, consider joining our federation-focused Matrix room: #forgejo-federation:matrix.org (web link)"

70·1 month agoDigital sovereignty. Codeberg is funding development of forgejo. Forgejo will federate to other instances. So you can have your own repo and someone on another forgejo can interact remotely. So no need for centralized platforms anymore. Power of the Fediverse! :-)
I’ve been playing with Emissary and having exactly the thought about that as GeoCities. No official instance or anything yet, but it seems to allow you to do just that. Has a WYSIWYG builder or HTML and CSS or markdown. Ben Pate, creator of Emissary, created bandwagon.FM with it.

Looks like it’s powered by NextCloud? If so, that’s FOSS funding that we all win!
