Technology@lemmy.zip•US | Government by AI? Trump Administration Plans to Write Regulations Using Artificial IntelligenceEnglish
1·3 months agoYou can tell this isn’t true because there is no way trump plans to do anything with any kind of intelligence.
Right, it would be started basically exactly the opposite. Certainly not a statement followed by an if block.
Those would all start with the if, followed by two conditions, not a statement and then an if. There would be a condition to evaluate, followed by then/else?
Maybe it’s just worse when written. The period at the end of the sentence makes it hard to see how it could be misunderstood.
To your point though, not sure if I’m aware of any programming language that would continue a statement with a following if block. Far more likely that it would fail due to lack of an element to apply the 6 to rather than having a pointer to the previous object, or he would try getting what ever the literal version of a 6 would be, or maybe some slang version.

1·3 months agoThat does make sense, but seems like if that was a component of the situation it might have been mentioned, but it references him going in to finish watching the game in the living room. Sounds a whole lot more like a drinking thing and less likely to be about ‘what’ he was pissed off about.

News@lemmy.world•Google CEO Says We're All Going to Have to Suffer Through It as AI Puts Society Through the Woodchipper
13·4 months agoWell, can you imagine being given a million dollars and someone coming along and saying ‘oh, sorry, you didn’t withdraw that in time and now it’s no longer there, and you owe use a $100 transaction fee’. That would really suck, wouldn’t it?
Now imagine that happening 10 times a day, and you can start to imagine how horrible some of these billionaires feel every day!
Of course to make it more realistic, your job wouldn’t require you to actually ever come into the office or do anything, they would occasionally double or triple your salary based on the stock market, and instead of it being a million dollars, it would be a dollar or so every once in awhile and you wouldn’t know what the transaction fee was because it is effectively less than a rounding error on your current balance. Also banks will loan you money and just write it off if you don’t pay it back with no impact to your credit score.

News@lemmy.world•Florida man kills wife, shoots stepdaughter after fight over NFL game: Don't shoot me'
414·4 months agoOnce again, wtf does this have to do with an ‘NFL game’ that deserves space in the title? He was drinking in one place and brought that into a family shared space and didn’t like being confronted about it. Based on the rest of the article it could have been a cooking show or Bluey for all the difference it seemed to make. It’s not like there was some detail about the football game that passed him off so bad he decided to shoot two people, so why the hell is that part of the title aside from click bait?

163·7 months agoCan we find the person who, for no apparent reason, interpreted manufacturers markings as apparent ‘trans ideology’ and ask him wtf that was supposed to accomplish? I mean if you don’t know what some markings mean, aside from blatant bias is there any possible way to get to ‘trans ideology’ from manufacturers markings? Are they using male/female icons? Emojis? Printing them in rainbow colors?

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Teams will soon block screen capture during meetingsEnglish
1·11 months agoWell, ‘proven wrong’ is a bit of a stretch. ‘will soon block screen capture’ doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room, but also isn’t that crazy to read into it that maybe it would block screen capture on the presenters screen… especially if you grant that it might only have control over the teams portion of the screen. I’ve had it black out windows on my own machine even when not presenting.
But further than that, it’s not fair to say everything has to be read only from the most or the least charitable viewpoints. Context is a thing and if you’re even a little bit familiar with the history of software enshittification, it’s reasonable to assume that an uncharitable reading is fair without assuming the app will now melt your computer for spare parts if you try something that is disallowed. ‘As shitty as we can get away with’ might be a good rule of thumb.

Global News@lemmy.zip•Mexico is suing Google over how it’s labeling the Gulf of Mexico
4·11 months agoDumbest thing about the entire thing is that naming it the Gulf of ‘anything’ basically highlights the perspective it was named from. Naming it the Gulf of Mexico highlights it in reference to the US, basically intrinsically identifying it as an American gulf, and specifying it as ‘the one near Mexico’. By Trumps logic we should name every gulf that touches the US ‘Gulf of American’. He’s so arrogant that he can’t even see anything past his very first instinct. Like if you said ‘the part of my yard next to Fred’s yard’ and Trump came in and said you should rename it ‘the part of my yard next to my house’….that’s what Fred should call it, and it references Fred as being more important in the equation.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Teams will soon block screen capture during meetingsEnglish
3·11 months agoThat’s a charitable reading, and likely justified by the article, but based only on the phrasing, it’s just as likely to read that as assuming Microsoft will block all content in order to ensure the safety of sensitive data. Sniff tests have to be adapted when things tend to stink in general, or companies regularly try to cover up their smell.

God i hope the fact that they refuse to call this a war ruins his plan of election interference where he claims we can’t have elections ‘as normal’ because ‘we’re in the middle of a war’. Wartime act to insist on weapons production? Nope, not at war!
